Get A CCFC Store In The New St. David's Centre

Wed Sep 22, 2010 8:45 am

The club need a presence in the city centre. I was in Drakes Circus which is the new shopping centre in Plymouth and there was a Plymouth Argyle store heaving with shoppers buying tickets and clothing. They also had nice glossy window displays advertising the next game.

Christmas is coming a store full of kits, bedding, school equipment, jewellery and car accessories would make a mint now.

Even if it was again shared it would be a start. In fact I may open my own Cardiff Sports store selling CCFC, Blues, Devils and Glamorgan cricket stuff.

Who wants to back me with funds?

Wayne
Good call if all the clubs got together to share the costs it would make sense. Trouble is this idea comes from a caring fan so I guess it will fall into some black hole!!!!!

there was a shop selling CCFC gear but it seems to have gone bust last year and closed down ! Some of us cant get to CCS other than a matchday so it makes sense really to have an outlet , even the JJB / DW sports shops too !

That Lab Sports shop (opp Sports Direct) sold City stuff in St Davids Centre, but it closed down within only a few months of opening, and there was that Joma shop near the train station before we switched back to Puma.

I agree that there should be somewhere in the city centre that sells CCFC merchandise, but these last two show that maybe it isnt a viable option to have our own outlet. Maybe the club should try to strike a deal with JJB or Sports Direct to have a City section in their stores alongside the Man Utd, Chelski, Arsenal, Lpool sections they already have in place, although they would then take some of the revenue so City wouldnt recieve all the money from sales.

The Blues already have outlets such as Shop Rugby by the castle to sell their shirts and merchandise, and the WRU have a shop in Westgate St outside the Millennium Stadium. As well as the Pure Rugby shop in St Mary Street, which sells Wales and all the regions stuff amongst most rugby nations kit.

Im guessing its down to poor credit ratings and CCFC only getting limited stock for the reasons but things maybe changing a bit now and unlike Joma who dealt directly with the retailers Puma sell ALL to CCFC then its upto City to supply the in town shops !

I also think that the club should have a store in the City Centre!

I wouldn't be surprised however, if they've already thought about it, but are currently working through all the shite the last regime left us with!

Can see a store opening there before too long!

It took them long enough to get stock for the "Superstore" at the stadium, so kitting out an entire unit in the city centre might be a step too far at the moment,

Maybe, any store could incorporate a ticket office type booth to enable fans to purchase match tickets for the next 2/3 games, I seem to remember buying a Carling Cup ticket from the Joma shop in town once. :old:

I think it is probably in the grand plan to get a store in town, but its not really a priority at the moment.

The Lab Sport business model did not stand or fall because of the City stock, it was not doing anything different to all the other sports shops. They were a chain with a few stores around the UK and highlighted expansion as a way of paying their debts. It failed and they went into administration.

If I was opening intown you'd have to go to the new arcade as the CBD has shifted and stores on the Capitol are starting to suffer

Very true. The overheads in the St Davids Centre are astronomical. You have to have a big weekly turnover just to break even in that place.

I would love a store in ST Davids 2 but is it cost effective? previous attempts suggest not.
Thing is most sales in the club shop at a guess would be the kits, the home kit most people who want it already have it.

Maybe a club shop/ticket sales shop could work but then are the cost of the overheads worth it?

I remember Sam Hammam toying with the idea of a club shop in the St David's centre [old one] years ago. I managed a unit in the St davids Centre in the early/mid 90's, & i'm pretty sure the ground rent alone was about £12.000 a month then, & that was for a small/medium unit. Add all the other costs to the P&L sheet, including staff wages, we basically had to take over £30.000 turnover a week to just break even, & that was then. you would have to sell a lot of shirts, every week, to survive in that retail centre now.

They can't even keep our own shop stocked up so what chance of us having a shop in the St Davids centre. And the rent is collossal I would think
