The memorial garden

Mon Jun 06, 2022 6:36 pm

I have noticed that the gentleman who looks after the garden has been given an award by cardiff city foundation .he looks after the upkeep of the garden most days ,but last week I had occasion to visit it and got talking to Mel and he told me he is struggling for funds to keep the garden in shape surely this can be right. Do the club contribute to the upkeep if not is there any way we the fans could raise funds maybe from a collection on matchdays. Sorry if my information is wrong bur I don't think it is andmaybe the supporters club could organise this

If he is struggling for funds I’m sure a well publicised collection would certainly help.

I’d be happy to donate. Although this should be funded by the club and I’m shocked to hear it’s not.

Its not funded by the club. It's all done through donations.
I arranged to bury my dad's ashes there in April through Paul Corkrey who was wonderful.
They offer a great service but you can see it needs funding.

How about a well publicised collection in the changing room or boardroom.
That this is discussed here says much..

The folks who have maintained that area have done an excellent job on the most special part of the ground. Corky maybe the best to address this, he's and excellent guy and I'm sure that he'll be a able to prioritise this and advise the club and fans on what can and needs to be done in terms of contribution and ongoing maintenance.

I've put in my will that I want my ashes at the ground - more than happy to pay ahead for that service now if it helps - I'm hoping it won't be needed too soon mind... :bluebird:

Hi Guys,

The football club maintain the area through the club ground staff and regular mowing and tidying takes place,we also put the plaques on the wall and provide staff to dig the holes and assist families who plant flowers etc and lay ashes at the garden. All free of charge apart from the cost of the slate plaques that are purchased through sales@lasersareus.com, these plaques are sent to me at CCFC and I get the lads to cement them on to our Memorial wall.

Since I took over as the SLO in September I have prioritised the garden as one of my core duties and have assisted many fans to date.
We have had great donations from the CCSC ,the Trust and Disabled supporters club that provided new benches which were concreted into the area and drainage and are currently erecting a wicker fence around the garden for a little bit more privacy now that the test centre as gone and the area is more open.

The Veterans meet at the club in the stadium disabled access room on Tuesdays and some of them come across to do some work in the garden , Mel is often there on other days too and its great for them and we are happy to see them there enjoying the garden and assisting with its upkeep.

Any money we collect or get donated we use to assist with things like the new fence or maintainance. I will have a look at some ideas in the summer to see if there is a project for the garden we can crowd fund and no doubt the supporters groups will also assist us if needed.

I am responsible for questions about the garden or if you need help with anything to do with it, just get in touch slo@cardiffcityfc.co.uk
