Burnley's Premier League hangover could last for years......

Postby Bluebina » Tue May 24, 2022 7:47 am

Interesting to see what happens with Burnley?

Nine players out of contract, no manager, a £65MILLION debt to repay and a fire sale of players..Burnley's Premier League hangover could last for years and see them headed straight for League One, just like Sunderland
Burnley were relegated on Sunday when they lost 2-1 to Newcastle United
Club was the subject of a leveraged takeover, which saddled them with debt
Following relegation a 'significant proportion' of a £65M loan must be repaid
Financial analysts say the debt will have a huge impact on the club next season

Yes, that takeover seemed a strange one at the time and seems even worse now !!

Up until then they appeared to be pretty well run, albeit on a small budget.

The new owners seemed to take a big gamble on Burnley staying up and it appears to have put them in real jeopardy. In addition to all those contracts coming to an end there are some players that simply won't play in the Championship and will leave.

As others have said, you fear for this old club because the parachute payments will just be wiped out with the loans and drop off of income pretty quickly.

Big mistake getting rid of Dyche was their best chance of saving them!

Looks like it will be Kompany, Bellamy speaks very highly of him. Will be interesting to see how he and they do.

Yes and will Bellamy be ready to go and help him?

Judging by the state of their finances it woud be a bit of a risk?

My first reaction was …They’ve got a few very good players there who should pull in some decent fees

However , I’ve just looked at the contract situation and McNeil has 2 years left, Pope 1 .. but the following are all out of contract..

Mee, Tarkowski, Pieters, Barnsley, Cork, Stephens, Lennon, Vydra, Barnes

Ina lot of those cases the players are getting on and probably on very good money, so it’s not all bad, but Tarkowski in particular would be expected to get a decent fee.

Going to be interesting to see how this works out
