" Burnley relegated to the Championship "

Postby worcester_ccfc » Sun May 22, 2022 5:11 pm

Burnley have been relegated to the Championship on the final day of the Premier League season.

Their defeat against Newcastle and Leeds' win at Brentford sealed their fate.

Elsewhere, the title was won by Manchester City over Liverpool.

Tottenham sealed a top four place over Arsenal.

Manchester United will join Arsenal in the Europa League, despite United losing to Crystal Palace. West Ham will go into the Europa Conference League after they lost at Brighton.

Another great last day and some very honest performances

I thought Villa were going to spoil Pep's party but fair do's to Citeh, they did what they needed again!

Happy for Spurs to pip the Arsenal to 4th spot, as I like the manager Conte

At the other, I'm actually pleased for Leeds to stay up and for Burnley to come down, dedpite the guaranteed 6 point loss for us... :laughing6:

I thought Burnley would go down after sacking Dyche and ironically, he'd be the perfect person to take them back up again, an odd move.

I wanted Leeds to stay up purely as it increases our chances of Drameh returning and on balance, even with Ayling out, Drameh may well decide he's still not going to get the game time at Leeds that we can guarantee.

Got no interest in the Premier League at all, all bloody money driven and same clubs at the top through money. I wont be surprised if Newcastle are up there next season.

Anyone know about anything about a £65million loan Burnley have to pay back on relegation?

Seen the odd mention on Twitter and it seems it will eat up their parachute payments and create an issue for keeping their squad.

I believe that's correct. The Premier League allowed the new owners to use the club's own funds to buy the club and the problems come from there.

They're going to be in huge trouble next season and I'll be surprised if they're not battling relegation again.

Most teams in the Championship will have little to spend this summer but Burnley will have practically nothing, whilst also having to sell a large amount of their current players.

No secret that we have a small budget, but Burnley's will be much smaller.

It's why they took the huge gamble of sacking Dyche, as they were desperate to stay up for these reasons.

I didn't agree with that decision. Sean Dyche worked miracles at that club and, although they struggled this season, he was probably best placed to keep them up this season.

Apparently got 9 players out of contract so can see them struggling to get in top 6

Parachute payments could be used as a sweetener. If not the funds could temp others there.

And if dont come straight back up their balance sheet will show more reductions plus they owe 37m to someone else... they do have relegation clauses with players in event of relegation and players of value like Pope but overall not a rosey picture.

Huge gamble replacing Dych, blew up in their face as for this loan think I read on here at the time how suspicious that all sounded.

Very odd as not sure heard of such a stipulation from owners especially as only just taken over club... football seems to be full of dodgy owners going on the amount of clubs having problems with way they are run.

Nah they should give the award to Son as Salah scored about 5 penalties and Son doesn’t even take them.

I know Allen, some very murky waters about, but thankfully they seem to be getting found out.

Burnley are a small town club who always punch above their weight very different from ourselves! but sacking Dyche was a big mistake!
