"CARDIFF CANT JUST HAVE YOUNG LADS NEXT SEASON / THEIR HAS TO BE A MIX."

NEIL WARNOCK:

Warnock is adamant that, despite a poor season this year, Cardiff will rise again as it is in the fabric of the club to do so. It is anticipated that the club will overhaul its squad in the summer, which could see as many as 15 or more players leave and Warnock hopes Steve Morison and his staff can get the recruitment right in order to kick-start their campaign next year.

"It's a typical footballing hotbed. It'll come back," he says confidently. "I don't know how long it will take, it'll be interesting. It's a busy time for them, recruitment-wise. They have to get it right, they can't just have young lads, there has to be a mixture, so Cardiff will also have to sign experienced players."

"It's going to be a big couple of weeks down here in Cardiff. It looks like they are going to need six or seven players. Hopefully he will get one or two good pros in as well. I just want them to do well. It'll take time, the finances are not there, so it is going to be difficult.

"But I think Steve [Morison] will have had a good time to look at what he needs and hopefully his recruitment will be good. It'll be interesting to look at it from afar."

An interested onlooker from afar, yes, but Warnock wants the club to know he is there if ever anyone needs advice or a sympathetic ear. Because there will be very little in football that the manager hasn't experienced, that's for sure.

And on that note, what next? We have heard the old retirement spiel before and it's never lasted too long. He does admit, though, that a job upstairs somewhere one day might peak his interest.

"Possibly," he says when asked about some sort of consultancy role at a club. "A day or two somewhere. But it would have to be right one. I've been offered three or four clubs between when I left Middlesbrough.

"If you look around now, you can't give me two or three managers on your hand that you'd have tomorrow. There are just none about is there? That's why I was still working at 73!

"I wouldn't interfere with what Cardiff wanted to do, because I had just such a great time here. Mehmet knows if he wanted to ask me anything he could always pick the phone up. The same with Steve. They know where I am."

No more than Morison himself has said.
