A VIEW FROM AFAR (v DERBY COUNTY)

Sat May 07, 2022 1:55 pm

I went into today's game with little or no expectation other tgan to round off a pretty disappointing season in general with at least a decent performance

What we got was a hearty display by a Bluebird team, who contained a couple of promising players for the future and a sprinkling of those who may well have been saying 'au revoir' in Bluebird colours, including the impressive Aiden Flint, who was named captain ahead of Curtus Nelson

The game itself started well balanced and in true style (5 at the back) we seemed happy to let Derby have the ball before countering wheneve we could

Not too much tk say about that first half as a spectacle but Derby probably edged it and I was happy to go into the break at 0 - 0

HALF-TIME SCORE: DERBY COUNTY 0 - 0 CARDIFF CITY

An immdiate substitution saw Rubin Colwill replace Olover Denham, as Steve Morison changed the shape to a 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 formation and the Bluebirds immediately came more into the game with some slick moves and a good goal set up by Eli King and netted by Jordan Hugill after 54 minutes

Derby were stung by this and took some time to get back into the game and took off the impressive (former Bluebird) Tom Lawrence for a striker before coming back into the game

The Bluebirds battled well and might have added to their own tally before the game ended and the Bluebirds secured their first win for 6 gamed and another 'double' win over Derby

FINAL SCORE: DERBY COUNTY 0 - 1 CARDIFF CITY
Bluebird scorer: Jordan Hugill (54 mins)

So what next?

What I saw today gave me hope that the path we are embarking on could be a positive one. The youngsters we have used have been sound and with the right additions in the summer, we should move forward next season

Steve Morison is shaping squad and coaching staffs into his own image and he will sink or swim off the back of it

Today, the signs were positive an look forward to seeing what unfolds this summer with interest

Good win today and (unlike the Jacks) we go into the summer break winners... :ayatollah:
