BBC WALES Report
Cardiff City are parting company with goalkeeper coach Andy Dibble, BBC Sport Wales has learned.
It is understood the former Wales international was told by manager Steve Morison his services were no longer required.
Dibble, who began his playing career with the Bluebirds, took the position in 2017.
He is not expected to be on the touchline for Saturday's final Championship game at Derby County.
The move will be a surprise to Cardiff fans as Cwmbran product Dibble, who is 57 on Sunday, first had an association with the club as an apprentice before turning professional in the Welsh capital in 1982.
Dibble made 62 appearances for Cardiff before being sold to Luton Town for £125,000 in 1984, saving a penalty for the Hatters in a man-of-the-match performance at Wembley as they lifted the League Cup in 1988.
His club career also included more than 100 appearances for Manchester City, lifting a Scottish Premier Division title with Glasgow Rangers and two FAW Premier Cups with Wrexham, for whom his son Christian now plays.
Capped three times by Wales, Dibble was a goalkeeper coach at Accrington Stanley, Peterborough and Rotherham before he joined his boyhood club Cardiff, where he has honed the skills of Neil Etheridge, Alex Smithies and Dillon Phillips.
Cardiff have yet to comment.
“ Andrew Dibble “
Cardiff City’s goalkeeping coach
. After 6 yrs of coaching at City and producing 3 player of the year goalies, Neil Etheridge, Dillon Phillips & Smitthies this season was yesterday axed without notice and leaves sadly in a bitter way. Dibs had been City’s goalkeeper many years ago and was a local lad.
Sad to hear as loved by so many, from fans and staff at the club, was good to have a local person at City.
Was a Cardiff City & Luton Town hero.

Wow. That is a shock. Any reason?
Fri May 06, 2022 8:55 pm
That comes as a shock.
Wonder what caused that?
Who will the replacement be?
Fri May 06, 2022 8:59 pm
I’d love to hear the reasons on this.
I don’t want to start any unsubstantiated rumours but there were rumblings about leaks from the dressing room……………….
Fri May 06, 2022 9:00 pm
No offence to him intended but he managed to turn Smithies from one of the championships best into an average championship GK. would love margetson back
Fri May 06, 2022 9:07 pm
I wonder if he was the leak?
Shame I like dibs, shows a lot of passion, he wanted the best for this club

100% should sing his name at Derby tomorrow
Goes to show people you love the club and they don’t give a crap about people

Dibs was not like that , I have known him since we were kids, he kept everything private and never would say a word of anything that went on at all his clubs, very professional.
Probably cut backs

You’ve got no knowledge of what’s happened, no one here does. Why jump to conclusions before the dust has settled and the truth has come out?

Probably morison wants his own team in ,not sure if dibs was any good at his job but wish him well

Yep, I would have been shocked if he had been part of the leaks.
As you say probably more to do with Morison wanting his own team in. I don’t buy the cut back theory as no way will they do without a goal keeping coach.

A disgrace. Andy is
a great bloke and a great coach.
He should be reinstated. It would be interesting to know if Andy has come to the end of his contract. If not another waste of money.
Shocking decision. .

Right folks please hear me out. I am a close friend to Dib and have followed Cardiff for 52 years home and away. This Man is heartbroken and in bits. His passion and love for Cardiff City is without doubt . Just read the double spread in the Luton Town programme only 3 weeks ago. His dedication and commitment is unquestionable. In his 5 years since coming back 3 years of that the goalkeeper has won the player of the year award He is often visiting Treharis where youngsters as young as 8 are there encouraging and supporting their development .All in his own time . I can categorically say there is no way he would divulge anything to do with team selection or tacticts he is a true professional. The way he has been treated is disgusting. He is heartbroken. I'm afraid thats it for me under this current regime. The club I've loved all my life has gone! Shame on you Vincent Tan , Mehmit Dahlman ,Ken Choo and Steve Borley . As for Steve Morison and Mark Hudson make the most of it in my humble opinion you will be out by October .

I honestly don't believe that to be the reason; the teamsheet 'leak' came from elsewhere and was believed to be a breakdown in trust between two (so called) friends
From personal experience, I'm gutted for Andy, as I know him to be a genuine guy and a Bluebird supporter, who did more than his best to keep the Bluebird goalkeepers at the top of the pack
It is known that Steve Morison wants to go in a different direction with his goalkeepers and it seems he wants 'bigger' keepers in his squad with Alex Smithies being forced out (he wanted to stay, despite stories to the contrary, Dillon Phillips uncertain of a future here and even George Ratcliffe facing an uncertain future come the end of the season
Maybe Andy is just a casualty of this...?
No matter what, I thank Andy Dibble for his positive efforts and wish him well for his future

You are making outlandish accusation blaming the club so why not say why hes leaving and under what circumstances? We can all attack club but does help if know why ?

Sentiment and football don’t mix. It’s no surprise when a new manager changes his coaching staff. All we can do is judge them on results and let’s be honest the season has been awful. I wish him all the best though.
Sat May 07, 2022 5:27 am
All good things come to an end and thanks to Dibs for his contribution over the years. We are in transition and just maybe Andy is not the person for our new style of playing out from the back.
Personally I think our keepers distribution has been poor for a number of years.
Sat May 07, 2022 5:33 am
Heard from someone at the club this moves has nothing to do with personalities, but the club were a bit disappointed with goal keeper development and want to freshen up the coaching team.
Is it the right decision? Time will tell. But let's not be hyperbolic about it.
Sat May 07, 2022 6:14 am
it's sad to hear, but sentiment only holds the football club back. Alex. smithies (former championship goalkeeper of the year) and Dillon Phillips have been at the bottom of the championship goalkeeper metrics this season. Maybe the club will hire a goalkeeper coach who has more experience with training goalkeepers to play out from the back more as opposed to purely training shot stopping.

Well that's 100% bull as I know Mark and his family. Know where he lives and the new house he's bought and is renovating. Plus he's just sold his last one for a substantial profit! Both nowhere near Yorkshire!
As African says above, probably just a freshen up. Our goalkeepers have been very poor this season. Was that Dibs' fault? We can't say. But certainlyl something needed to be done.
Sat May 07, 2022 6:19 am
Pathetic penny pinching by the club and more to come. Sunday league GK coach incoming who played at Millwall 10 years ago or some other link like that no doubt
Sat May 07, 2022 6:39 am
Business is Business and more often than not a change in manager also brings changes in coaching staff, as managers want to bring in their own team. Theres no reason why this shouldn't include the goalkeeper coach aswell?
Maybe he was on a rolling 12 month contract and, after discussing it with Morisson, decided he wanted to bring in someone else.
Unless anything to the contrary is released officially (I doubt it will be) then I'll just see it as a business decision, and leave any gossip and speculation about unrest and falling out with other staff, to others.
Sat May 07, 2022 7:24 am
You either buy into Steve Morison or not. He is the gaffer, we have thrown everything in with him at the most important time in our recent history.
Let's be honest we haven't come off a stellar season, I am not saying the goalkeepers were at fault but it's SM management team and if the dynamic isn't there it isn't there and someone needs to go.
IMO he needs an established recognized top coach in his team as we have way too many rookies including SM in his team.
The pure speculation on here and reaction to that speculation is laughable

Good post mate.
There seems no doubt that AD was a top bloke but there’s not much sentiment in any business, particularly football.

It is football and It is a brutal business Nothing ever surprises me in football
