Confirmed that he sadly passed away through repeated heading.
An outrageous statement from the club secretary that the club don't keep players going back more than 8 years.

Very sad indeed but without wishing to be controversial, why would the club necessarily keep ex players records for more than 8 years?

That's what I thought. I think, and I stand to be corrected, that employment records only have to be kept for a maximum 6 years after an employee has left and, in fact, since the introduction of data protection I think it's illegal to keep longer than the guidelines.

In this instance that doesn't relate to appearances, stats, etc., it's about employee personal and health records which is what the Coroner would have been interested in.

Really sad case though, I remember watching him as he made it into the first team and he had a few very impressive seasons for us.

I thought the club would keep basic stuff like who was the clubs insurers. In case of claims re health and, safety.

Possibly not. I think that is maintained by other bodies. I know, years ago when my father died of an industrial disease whilst working at a company that was no longer in existence the solicitors had to go to some sort of insurers organisation who hold a register.

Don't forget, businesses change ownership, go out of business, etc., so there would have to be a central register somewhere.

Barry town also dont have any records on his time there so seems to be a standard practice not to keep records after certain length of time for whatever reason..

May be the legislation.. with HAV in construction, records have to be kept for 40 years.
