Allsop wants to stay at Derby

Derby County goalkeeper Ryan Allsop wants to remain at Pride Park next season, despite the Rams' relegation to League One.

The shot-stopper is understood to be on Cardiff City's radar this summer, with Alex Smithies on his way out of the door at Cardiff City Stadium. Dillon Phillips will wear the gloves until the end of the season, but a new 'keeper will be on Steve Morison's increasingly lengthy shopping list this summer. You can read more about that here.

The Bluebirds are likely to face stiff competition for Allsop, with other parties interested in his services. The 29-year-old started the season as third choice in the east Midlands but forced his way into Wayne Rooney's team after Christmas.

Out of contract at the end of the campaign, he could leave for free but his recent comments hint that he wants to stay with the club. Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I’ve loved my time here and I don’t want that to end,” adding that he "hopes to get something sorted in the summer".

Uncertainty surrounding Derby players is set to be a continued theme this summer, with a takeover still in the offing. Rooney added: "I can say 95% of the players in there I would want to keep, but what I can't do is tell them what the salary will be.

"The players who are out of contract, I know there are other clubs sniffing round them and putting salaries in front of them which unfortunately sometimes that is what it takes."

With any of the Derby players it might not be up to them.

Those in financial control of the club will have to cut costs otherwise they will continue to be in breach of the financial regulations and/or risk going out of business. Even the prospective new owners will have to work within a pretty tight envelope in terms of salaries/contracts.

Doesn't necessarily mean he's coming to us though !! There will be a lot of clubs looking at the position and, similar to us with Wigan when we signed Moore, will be looking for a bargain or two.
