Isaak Davies?

Thu Apr 21, 2022 12:32 pm

Would you loan him out next season if we brought in replacements?

Has had a handful of good games but seems to have gone off the boil recently.

I know he is only young but I do think a season long loan to a league 1 side could be a good move for him.

This is an interesting one.

I'm guessing this will be all about assessing him after the summer both against his own progress/development and against what/who we bring in. If he's not going to be playing regularly and we have sufficient cover I would let him go on loan in Div 1 to toughen him up, that may be in January or the summer.

For me I think he can make it at Championship level but he needs to improve his upper body strength and finishing.

He has already much improved his positioning and work rate off the ball so he's still progressing rather than stagnating, but those additional two things will be key in deciding whether he is a Div 1 or 2 player or a Championship (or above) player.

I like his attitude and he's already a major nuisance for defenders on his day so I really hope he makes it

Not sure we are playing him in the right position, I think hes more of a winger

I think you might be right there. No way that could have happened whilst playing 3-5-2 as he would have been too exposed defensively but now we seem to be moving to 4-5-1 it could well be his best position.

Imagine him and Drameh down the right hand side :thumbright: :ayatollah:

He is one of those we spoke about previously, not a great footballing brain.

Decision making is poor as is his ability to remain calm in front of goal.

However, Earnie was very similar and look how good he turned out to be.

The big difference is that Earnie had something you can't teach, a goalscorer's instinct to be in the right place at the right time. But yes, other facets of his game were well below par when he first got into the side.

I disagree lads. A few occasions he’s been one in one and he’s seemed totally lacking in confidence. Deffo loan him out if we get an adequate replacement. Sell Harris if possible too.

To be fair to Davies, you can't teach pace either and I would suggest that he's already quicker than Earnie was.

I certainly agree with you on Harris, I don't think he'll make it the Championship level particularly as he's 3 years older than Davies.

As for Davies, the confidence thing in front of goal is certainly something that can be worked on by sports psychologists and through repetition in training with someone who's still only 20. Let's hope so anyway :bluebird:

Hell no
he will be our main striker next season and you want him loaned out ?? We need our youngsters with the 1st team so they can improve week in week out. Yes Davies is off the boil but this is only because every player will have their minds on next season.

I did not think he had it in him when he first arrived in the first team squad, but have to say he has improved quite a lot and I can definitely see him making the grade at championship level.

We certainly do not want to loan him out! He has played well and his pace is a big asset. Will be even better next season.

I think he will be a valuable and improving member of the first team squad next season so no way would I loan him out.

I agree he's still learning but is only young and he's developing well, Morison will keep working on his strength and build him up a bit and I think we could have a very useful player on our hands.

The same with Colwill but maybe work on his strength and stamina but in the opposite way he's looking a little stocky and heavy (for a professional footballer), although it might just be his natural build?

Two great players in the making for next season

I agree with you Wezza. He’s a winger.

Let’s put it this way Davies, Watters , Harris or Collins won’t get us promoted or even the play offs.

Davies the best out of all 4 and could make it.

Re: Isaak Davies?

I think this was his loan spell. He'll know what the championship is all about now and has the summer to work on a few things. He was a U23 this time last year

I think SM has been trying to fill round holes with square pegs. We needed to maximise Hugil and SM stated that Hugil always played better with a partner, so he has had partners.

To me he is a 433 wide forward, but he needs to run onto passes not flicks ons. Confidence is a weird thing and he was very good finisher at U23 level where they didn't launch it at every opportunity. I few early goals and who knows where he ends up.
In a passing based game I think he'll be fine.

I used to think that Harris was also a wide forward but i am not so sure know. He looked decent when he played centrally when he replace Uche. I think he may be L1 though, but make a decent career out of it.

If Davies is our main striker next season we are doomed ,strikers need to score Davies doesn't, he's a winger.

27 games 2 goals its just not good enough if we want to progress .

But only started 10 0f those games, 17 as substitute and in 1 of the starts he was pulled of in the first half by Morison after spending less than 25 minutes on the field, and to his credit he has come back and showed he has the attitude and the potential to become a decent player

Still not good enough ,he started 10 games got two goals that's a 1 in 5 games ratio that is not going to get us promoted.as I said he's not a striker we need better strikers .

Gosh no he's only going to get better and become even more of a threat and we need his pace.

Jordon Hugil has made a total of 34 appearances this season and scored 4 goals that's 1 in 8 games yet people on here would like us to sign him for next season.

Isaac Davies is still learning his trade and as long as he keeps improving I would accept his record for the remainder of the season.but would expect a big improvement next season, which I believe he is capable off

I dont think we should push the boat out for hugil either tbh ,we Need strikers that actually score

He'll be an important part of the front line next year I think. He would have taken alot from this season.

Depends on the formation I guess. An old school winger I'm not sure maybe a wide forward though in a front 3?
