‘ Cardiff City took a hammering today ‘

CARDIFF CITY U23’S today took a hammering today away at League 1 Charlton

A lot of supposedly young stars played last night, plus Max Watters, we should not be getting hammered by a lower league club 6-1

Under Darren Purse the Bluebirds have only won 2 of their last 12 matches and now look like missing out on being promoted to to a higher level.

Thanks for posting Annis, I used to go to the dev squad games a few seasons ago regularly on a Monday night, as you did. I haven't really followed their progress as much as I used to and should do, but it seems that since SM no longer manages them, they have taken an immediate downturn which is not good. I wonder if anyone on here who monitors and watches them could offer their view as to what's happened?

Probably because the better under 23s are in 1st team squad .... under 23s team now play very young players from under 18 squad to replace them.... how many under 23s are there in 1st team squad 5 or 6? Must make a big difference to performances.

We have moved a number of players up from the season before in to our first team squad, but then we moved apparently some great youngsters up in to the U23’s, but we do play a lot of league 1 & 2 clubs U23’s , Crewe, Colchester, Ipswich , Charlton etc and so we should be beating them in my opinion.

Purse has struggled as their manager, the football is not entertaining like under Morison.

But to be fair not all the players that were put in the first team squad were as good as the local media/ Dalman had led everyone to believe.

We will probably see No more than 3 make it properly in the Championship.

We hurried a lot of our players, due to NO money, even Morison has repeatedly stated a massive step up and sent these players out to lower leagues and non leagues on loan.

Thanks gents. So it's a loss in quality in terms of players and it seems management. We should still be competing with lower league clubs though. I'm not close to it to form an opinion but it's evident something's wrong based on the almost immediate downturn in results. I'll try to attend a few dev squad games as it's always something I enjoyed.

In all fairness the amount of players moved up to the first team and been put on loan is quite vast. You look at Colwill, Davies, Denham, King, Patten, Connolly, Evans, Zimba.

That's alot of good 23 players that have needed to be replaced by young under 18s. It may seem like it's only youth or development football but it's still a jump for those young lads. Hopefully it will help them with their development moving up to the 23s regular next season.

But the majority of them wont become Championship players.

Exactly, We should not be hammered by lower league U23's.

According to Dalman & his puppet in the Media Wales, all these players & more are very high quality and virtually superstars.

All this was said, so our club got away without spending and we ended up near the bottom of the Championship, even Morison had to spk out and drop most of them and sent many out on loan.

IN MY OPINION A CARDIFF CITY TEAM OF PLAYERS THESE AGES SHOULD NOT BE STRUGGLING OR GETTING HAMMERED BY LOWER LEAGUE TEAMS:

Many of these players at their ages should be in City's first team squad if they were really as good as Dalman & Media Wales keep saying not being beaten week in week out by lower league clubs.

Or is Darren Purse not a good manager??

I totally agree and as someone (you) who watches every U-23 game, I think you have a better understanding than most on what has/is going on...

The team yesterday was full of players on 'professional' contracts, most of whom, if that good, should by now be knocking on the 1st team door or (at the very least) being part of the matchday squad

It's pretty clear that having managed the U-23's, Steve Morison knows what we had/has at his disposal and despite their pleasing style of play (under him) there were few he rated enough to promote to the 1st team even when told to do so!

Clearly, the manager has 'something' about him that he could get a 'tune' out of them and that is emphasised by both his relative success with the U-23's and now the 1st team

This is then compounded by his U-23 replacement not being able to get his own tune out of the U-23 group

And what has actually happened to those who have left the group?

Hmmm, some have come into the 1st team squad, most have gone out on loan, whilst some have either stagnated or gone backwards

Something is not right when we lose 6-1 to to any club, let alone Charlton Athletic

Chris,

Yes they are all on senior professional contracts and they are some how not clicking, is it Purse ? Or the players not as good Dalman & Glen Williams are making out?
