Nothing wrong with that at all.We also need some fans with more than one brain cell.

:thumbright:

Warnock said a very similar thing when he took over. It's probably one of the reasons Harris and McCarthy failed, they didn't recognise the impact that on field leaders have on a team.

Look at Warnock's teams. Morrison, Bamba, Peltier, Gunnarsson, Paterson, etc. A number of those weren't in the top 11 players ability wise but their impact on others around them made them even more invaluable and it's even more important when you've got young, inexperienced players alongside them.

It's pretty basic in terms of creating a balanced squad and I'm amazed that some people on here can't see that.

Conversely you see players with good technical ability in leagues 2 and the National league that can't make the step up because they haven't got the smarts. No matter what sport you look at the very best players are the best because they not only have good skills but use the top 3 ins better as well. Vision, awareness and an appreciation make a player that has adequate skills good and a skilful player great.

No leaders on the pitch.

Currently,
No Ralls, no midfield....

Absolutely THIS.

Every day of the week I would take a player with a footballing brain and less skill over a gifted player that needs to be told what to do every step of the way.

There are many extremely gifted players who nearly always make the wrong decisions.

I always use the example of Raheem Sterling. He is absolutely gifted beyond belief. However his decision making is extremely poor. If he had say, 70% of his skill he might be languishing a few divisions lower.

Another player like that was Theo Walcott.
