BLUEBIRD PLAYER RATINGS (v HULL CITY)

The Cardiff City player ratings as defender's howler proves costly but substitutes make positive impact v Hull City

Here is how each Bluebirds player rated in the clash with the Tigers

Dillon Phillips 6
Had a few problems with his distribution and wasn't always in complete control of his area. But made one tremendous save from Keane Lewis-Potter in the second half.

Oliver Denham 6
Considering it was his first Championship start, the 19-year-old acquitted himself very well. Confident on the ball and safe enough at the back.

Aden Flint 5
Had one or two scary moments and didn't cover himself in glory for the first goal. Some poor distribution from the stand-in skipper, too, but did really well to get his goal at the end.

Mark McGuinness 3
A howler for the first goal, selling Phillips short with his back pass. Also mis-hit his clearance leading to Hull's second. Hauled off at half- time.

Cody Drameh 6
Had little opportunity to showcase his talents, really, and was really tested defensively. Solid outing but nothing more.

Will Vaulks 6
Another tenacious display from the midfielder at the heart of proceedings. Kept things ticking over nicely in the absence of Joe Ralls.

Ryan Wintle 6
Had to employ a lot of his defensive nous early on as the visitors were cut open. Neat and tidy enough of the ball, as we've come to expect.

Joel Bagan 4
Didn't show too much in attack and was skinned once or twice in defence. If he is to play that wing-back role he must offer more in attack and display more confidence.

Isaak Davies 5
Struggled to get in behind and cause havoc, he just couldn't quite get the service. A little more involved after the break but just didn't have his usual zip.

Uche Ikpeazu 6
Was a real presence for Cardiff, which they sorely needed. Had one spectacular overhead kick denied by a diving Matt Ingram. Hooked at half-time.

Mark Harris 5
Just didn't happen for him. Ran down blind alleys and was dispossessed too easily. Had one low shot saved in the second half.

Subs

Rubin Colwill (Ikpeazu 45) 7
Looked really bright when he came on. His sort of situation, a broken game and licence to roam.

Tommy Doyle (McGuinness 45) 7
Had a really good chance of his own before plonking the ball on Flint's head from the corner. A positive display.

Alfie Doughty (Davies 76) 6
Played very advanced and gave a decent enough showing.

Hard to disagree except for Vaulkes the second goal he should have put the ball and player in row Z when he went down the line. Reminded me of a goal we conceded at Reading a couple of years ago where he did the same and they scored. So a 4 for me.

That goal at Reading was not Vaulks fault. He chased back from the half way line after Puskas who had about 10 yards on him to start while the rest of the side ambled back. Yes he got skinned in the corner by Puskas but there was zero cover behind him. Never understood why so many people pointed the finger of blame at him for that. He had a right to expect the rest of the side to have got back by then. I think he had words with Warnock over the incident (or was it Harris?) and they fell out for a while.
