Manchester Evening News are reporting that Manchester City will send Tommy Doyle back to Cardiff City next season on loan if they look like they have a squad ready to challenge for promotion.

That’s some lovely news for a Wednesday afternoon.

This says so much more than just getting Doyle back.

It suggests he is happy here and that he is happy with what is planned for next year.

I'd say better news than Boris resigning. ;)

Got a link for the report mate? The only one I can find says they expect him to stay in the Championship, and they're expecting a lot of interest, but no mention of us.

Great news if true.

Same. This article: https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk ... a-23673350

Quotes "Tommy Doyle, a teammate of Harwood-Bellis with City and England, is likely to stay in the Championship next season on loan. The tenacious midfielder has revitalised his campaign at Cardiff, although would be looking for a team likely to challenge for promotion."

I mean we could be challenging for promotion, in this league anything can happen, he may as well come to us if he's happy and Man City are happy.

That is excellent news if true, shows Morison is trusted to look after.loan players by other managers.
but the paper is a sister paper to the echo which quite a lot of posters always criticise for not being very accurate in their reporting so lets hope they have got this correct

When he scored recently against Stoke, his first goal at CCS, he said hopefully it was the first of many. That sounded to me like someone who was planning a longer stay than just until the end of the season.

Works for all parties - Cardiff get a great player, Doyle gets minutes at a good level at a team where he is valued and enjoys playing and Man City will get the benefit of his further development either through seeing him break into the squad or proceeds of a future sale.

I like this player, gutsy, quick and creative. Hope this turns out to be true.

FAO Pembroke Allan:

Man City make Tommy Doyle loan decision

Manchester City will send Tommy Doyle out on loan again next season but will likely look for a top-end Championship team to further his progression.

Doyle has been superb since arriving from the Premier League champions in January and has displayed immense technique and quality with impeccable consistency. He, along with the other January recruits, have had a big hand in steering the Bluebirds away from relegation.

Steve Morison has made no secret of the fact he would want Doyle back next season, but is fully aware there will be a clamour for the England Under-21 international's signature. And while it is positive news for Cardiff that Man City are looking to let him go again next term, it looks likely that he will be looking at teams further up the table.

Seeing a lot of people thinking that means he's staying with us but we're not challenging for promotion so we would be extremely lucky to have him again next season.

I hope we do but I won't get excited about this until we know he'll be here.

Know what you’re saying but during the summer recess nobody is challenging for promotion and there’s been a few cases of the favourites not living up to the hype.
We will indeed be lucky as you say but hopefully he loves it here and that will have some say in it :bluescarf:

Reading that article I'd guess that he's more likely to go to another team and not us, unfortunately.
More likely to be one of the teams relegated from the PL, or one of those who just miss out on promotion.

Indeed, reading the full report I would surmise that he'll be back in the Championship next season, but more than likely at a club that will be challenging for promotion.
Can see the likes of Norwich and Wztford being all over Doyle.

I must be the only one who doesn't rate him. Scores the odd goal, but generally is completely anonymous during matches as the game passes him by.

just seen Morisons article on Smithies, and at the end he says about the loan players, as he has had other managers higher up in the league ask about the players, and from what he said, he sounds doubtful of us getting them back on loan

Why are people speculating that we wont be challenging next season? Bet huddersfield fans said same thing after finishing 20th last season.... as for doyle he as improved by being at city what will change next season to say he wont do so again? Man c happy with morison for improving their player why choose a team who are higher in league now but can easily struggle next season? Some of the logic used is flawed by fans having low opinion of morison and club.

i don't think its a case of fans dont think we won't be challenging nessecarily, its more a case of where you sort of finish in the league this season, if we finish for example 16th, and Luton finish 4th and lose in the play offs, they will be expected to be challenging next season, and we won't be. other things factor is, yes they might look at us and go, he developed well at a struggling cardiff side, however if he send him to Norwich for example, he'll be playing with a better squad and the pressue of a promotion push will help him more, or they might just say, sorry cardiff you can only afford to pay (X) amount of his wage, whereas this other team have offered to pay more

Morison seemed to suggest he might not be able to keep these players on loan next season, as clubs at the other end of the league will be sniffing and some have already enquired about their personalities, which he stated earlier today.

Where a player ends up on loan though isn't dependent on what the fans think. The parent club, especially when considering a season long loan, want their players to be playing as high up the league as possible - Not only from a player development angle, but doing do also adds £value to the player, especially if the team is promoted.

So a relegated team is going to be pushing for promotion You mean like WBA? Think people missing the point ....the championship is very unpredictable so is going to a team higher than us this season will it be better for a player who as improved under morison and that man c are happy with his development here? Plus we were struggling at the time of him coming here? Think morison playing it down to an extent about him returning ....not sure man c are bothered about wages a club will pay as its about players development....

Well city was not high in league when they allowed him to join ... but what is not in question by anyone is he's improved under morison so why ould man c risk his developing on sending him to another team that may or may not be challenging for promotion next season ?

I think if Gareth Bale does decide to join us in the summer that could mean a whole host of players will want to join us - including, I hope, Tommy Doyle.
