JET has contract terminated

Aberdeen have terminated the contract of former Cardiff City striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas with immediate effect.

Emmanuel-Thomas signed on a two-year deal from Livingston last May under former boss Stephen Glass. But the 31-year old has struggled for regular game time and goals, having netted just once in 24 appearances. Jim Goodwin, Glass' successor, then froze him out of the squad before Aberdeen officially announced his departure today.

A club statement read: "The club can this afternoon confirm it has terminated the contract of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. The forward made 24 appearances for the Dons, making 12 starts and 12 substitute appearances and netted once.

"All at Aberdeen FC wish Jay the very best in his future career."

Emmanuel-Thomas had a loan stint with the Bluebirds during his time with Arsenal, scoring two goals in 14 league appearances back in 2011.

Did he only play 14 times for us? Wow - I thought it was loads more.

He had a horrible attitude when he was with us.

I recall him being very lazy.

Will probably look back on his career and think ‘What if?’ Talented, but didn’t have the application. Could have a lot better career.

Am I right in thinking he was one of our squad on the piss in town before we capitulated to Boro? There were photos doing the rounds of a few of the in a club at 2am.

14 times too many in my opinion. Jones left Chris Burke out for him and in that time we went from fighting it out with QPR for top position to play off chasers. We had probably the best side we have ever had in the 50 years i have watched us.

Certainly one of the best to watch.
I had an interesting conversation with a mate yesterday and we got talking about the recent derby. He said that he couldn’t remember the last time a CCFC side genuinely looked ‘up for it’ in a game v the jacks. We both agreed it was probably under Dave Jones and we both made the point that He seemed not bothered about the game, often saying it was just another game

I struggle to think of a more talented side in all my years. That season we had a squad that included at some time, Bellamy, Boothroyd (who got an England cap with us), Chopra, Whittingham, Drinkwater, Ramsey, Koumas, Whittingham, McNaughton, Olifyanjana, Marshall, Hudson etc. I have always maintained that Jones decision to break up the Adam Matthews and Chris Burke pairing down the right side was his biggest mistake in his time here.

It’s funny a lot of people on here criticised DJ but to be fair he built that squad under a very minimal budget, probably the most attractive football we’ve played in the last how many years

I personally haven't enjoyed watching the football down the City since Jones left. He wasn't great with the fans or in the press, but we played some brilliant football, and had some great players. And like you said, he did great on a minimal budget.
