I see Scunthorpe United have been relegated from The Football League today.

Photo from the last time I went there in 1993 with over 5,000 other Cardiff supporters. City won 3-0 to become Division 3 Champions that day. We had three sides of the ground which made for a brilliant atmosphere.

What a great day that was. We went up in a mini bus and about 30 miles from the ground turned off the motorway in search of a beer. We stumbled on a little village which had been completely taken over by about 300 City fans drinking in the village square. We were made to feel very welcome until the old bill turned up and moved everyone on, much to the disgust of the landlord who was making a killing.

Annis, I thought there was a lot more than 5000 of us there that day, as you say we had 3 sides of the ground and they were rammed. Loads in fancy dress and every motorway services was packed with City. I remember a jovial copper at the ground with a big handlebar moustache and all the coppers were very tolerant. Far and away my best day ever following City away.

My joint favourite away game.

Beating Scunthorpe in 93 to celebrate promotion with 5000 (more I would say) city fans was sublime. Everything about that day was top class. The drive up, the fans en-route, taking over their stadium, the fans and players on the pitch at the end and the party afterwards. Brilliant.

My other joint best away game - the 0-0 draw with Cambridge in 99 when we were done to 8 men. Magnificent.

Forget beating Man U at their place and a few away wins in the Premier League, these were proper away games.

The crowd was only 7,500, so probably 5,500 Cardiff.

It did seem a lot more.

Great day and memories.

Hell of a day, City fans doing the ayatollah for miles and miles out of the sun roofs of cars, so many drunk fans it was a great trip!

I knocked the cup out of Eddie Mays hands when he came up into the stand at the end of the game :laughing6:

I seem to remember we were given 6,000 tickets and Rick Wright in a typical publicity stunt of which he excelled tried to get the game changed to Elland Road or somewhere like that so we could take more. Football League told him where to go.

And weren’t Scunthorpe the first team to play us in a League fixture at the Cardiff City Stadium?

Used to write for their programme.

I have no degrees or qualifications in journalism but their media manager Chris gave me an opportunity.

So always had a soft spot for them and hope they come straight back up. A lot of good people who work there who will sadly lose their jobs now.
