Ricky Tomlinson Evening: Even Better Than We Thought!

Mon Sep 20, 2010 4:35 pm

The Ricky Tomlinson fundraiser brought in even more than was originally thought for the Fred Keenor Statue Fund. The club has told us today that it raised a whopping £9,383 which brings the fund’s total in money collected and pledged to £34,733. Thanks for everyone’s support.

Hate to point this out boss, but if the statue is commissioned after January 1st 2011 (which is highly likely) VAT rises to 20% making the total cost £102,000.

The blame for that clearly lies with all those who voted Conservative ;)

It is a great idea up to a point, however when you consider yesterday's newspaper headlines of a crackdown on tax avoidance by the coalition Government and a desire to send all those who deliberately avoid paying tax to prision.

It sought of raises the question on how Whitchruch Blue and TG would get on sharing a prision cell and who would be who's bitch

Martyn I think you are getting confused with the reversal of the VAT rate from 15% back to 17.5% on January 1st this year. Labour has never made any pledge to rise VAT to 20%, although they didn't rule it out during the election campaign.

That said whatever the circumstances I still blame the Coalition Government ;)

The Fred Keenor committee are commissioning a sculpturer from up the valley's somewhere, he apparently did the Tasker Watkins one for the WRU.

I think its made of solid bronze and of course it will involve a lot of work. The TW statue cost around the same.

Good job that had already been thought of then Tim ;)

For the benefit of posters on here that may not know:-

As the club is v.a.t. registered they can reclaim the v.a.t on expenditure for what will be an asset located at their stadium for the benefit of the club.

Several invoices have already been dealt with this way to date to recover the v.a,t. e.g they have made a stage payment to the sculptor.
