I hope they go up so the documentary has a great final episode. Hollywood demands it.

There was a season or two in @77-79 when Cardiff v Wrexham was a big match for both clubs. The 2-1 win up there in the rain in 1978 was as good as it got. A brave by John Buchanan :bluescarf:
swansea were an irrelevance back then.

When I first started following Cardiff during the mid 90's Wrexham was the best team in Wales, often a division above us. Would be great to see them back in the football league.

One of my vivid memories as a kid was the 1977 Fa Cup game 2-2 in injury time until John Buchanan turned up.

Memory plays tricks on you though. I was pretty sure he scored from well over 30 yards out. It was in fact a tap in in the box.

Was there, too and John Buchanan only did 'screamers' of which one of his best was the one you refer to; and if I recall correctly we'd thrown away a two-goal lead moments before

We had a good run that year, with Peter Sayer's superb goal beating Spurs in the 3rd Round we beat Wrexham in the 4th Round and eventually lost to Everton in the 5th Round with all three gamed at home and drawing massive crowds for the time at Ninian Park

And the say things have changed... :laughing6:

Absolutely correct about throwing away a two goal lead, but the earlier post was correct, it was no screamer. Wrexham scored deep into injury time but we got the winner straight from the restart. It was Steve Grapes I think who got to the bye line and pulled it back for Buchanan who side footed it into the net from about 10 yards. Place went mad. It was the featured game on Match of the Day

I thought I was remembering it wrongly so thanks for that. I also remember some huge guy grabbing me & hugging me (a 14 year old) while bouncing up and down on the grange end, thought I was going to suffocate.

I was at the back in the Grange End as well that day and stated making my way out from the back in disgust when Wrexham equalised. Only got half way down when Buchanan got the winner, it was that quick.

Can see them going up, probably in the play-offs as it looks tough for them go up automatically - only the league winners go up automatically in that league.

Once they get into the EFL, they could well make it to League One quickly after due to their money. Once they're in the third tier, it's a little bit more difficult. Just have to look at some of the teams who are currently outside the top six and their relatively successful history - Portsmouth, Ipswich, Bolton etc. As well as Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday because in 5th and 6th.

But remember Wrexham were an established EFL club before their relegation years ago. Likewise their arch rivals Chester, who have fallen even further.

8 points behind Stockport and they still have to play them. Wrexham have already beaten Stockport a few weeks ago in the trophy final and there are 8 games left to play in the league, I recon Wrexham will catch Stockport and go up as champions. Good luck to them. I’d like them to regain league status.
