It's all change for Cardiff City!

Dillon Phillips displaces Alex Smithies in goal, with Rohan Luthra taking a spot on the Bluebirds bench. The youngster was signed after leaving Crystal Palace last summer.

At the back it looks like a potential back four, although that might be one to monitor when the game gets underway. Cody Drameh and Joel Bagan appear to be the conventional full-backs, while Perry Ng is tested in a back two alongside the returning Curtis Nelson, who impressed for the under-23s during their 2-0 win over Barnsley on Tuesday.


In midfield it looks as though Alfie Doughty will occupy the left flank while Tommy Doyle is shipped out to the right.

Rubin Colwill, like he was at QPR, is deployed alongside Jordan Hugill to lead the line.


On the bench which includes Isaak Davies, Uche Ikpeazu and Mark Harris. The experienced Aden Flint is also among the replacements next to centre-back Mark McGuinness.

As for Ralls he’s the best of a poor midfield choice. Anyone but Vaulks.

4 2 3 1 according to Goal Live. The normal 5 at the back would have meant a midfield overload looking at Reading' s setup. Could change to 4 4 2 or revert to a back 5 as the match evolves. SM is definitly trying something different though, should be interesting.

We should have played a back 4 last week. We knew they would have a lot of possession in their own half. We could have done with the extra man in midfield.

I’d take Vaulks instead of him too, at least he’ll put a tackle in.

Looked like the team was selected in Reading Services ! Played like it too first half.
Two left backs ? Doughty took his goal well, & Bagan only played well after Doughty went off and he was free to use the space.
Reading have a massive centre forward & we leave both our big blokes on the bench. That didn’t make sense - see Reading goal.
Midfield looked disjointed and created little. Vaulks did well last 20 minutes.
