Pundit claims only one Bluebird would get into Swans side
By Glen Williams
Only Alex Smithies would get into Swansea City's starting XI, according to former Wales and Norwich City striker Iwan Roberts.
Following the Bluebirds' humiliating 4-0 defeat by their bitter rivals last weekend, fans of Wales' capital city club have been teeming with disappointment. Given the nature of the defeat, it's easy to see why.
Despite Cardiff's positive form heading into the match, Swansea made the victory at Cardiff City Stadium look easy, strolling home at a canter as the Bluebirds looked helpless and unable to cope. But Roberts believes that, no matter what the league positions of the both sides say, Swansea are a clear better side and possibly only one Cardiff player would get into Russell Martin's team.
"Swansea are capable of that type of performance, that's the difference," Roberts told the BBC's EJFOF podcast. For me it's quite simple, Swansea are the better side, they've got better players individually and collectively than Cardiff City.
"I look at that Cardiff City starting XI and I don't think one of them gets into the Swansea team. The only one that I would maybe think about is the goalkeeper, Alex Smithies. Apart from him - because I'm not convinced with Andy Fisher - no one else."

Is this the same Swansea team that a few weeks ago even their own fans were complaining about the negative, turgid, boring football they were playing and calling for the manager to be sacked??

Smithies has the 2nd worst save percentage in the league Yes he can pull some great save off but stats state he has had a lot of issues this season with his form

But Russ won them the Welsh World Cup over a two game tournament; the other 36 matches don't count...
After Saturday, the goldfish will have swum around the bowl a few times and they'll have forgotten the crap that went on before...

Just reactionary nonsense. Despite the hiding we took I’m still convinced that on another day with the right tactics and set up we are more than capable of beating them. They are not a brilliant side, below mid table ffs, and we’ve beaten better than them this season. That day we got everything wrong.

Can't remember anyone asking your opinion,

So Drameh, Doyle, Hugill, Wintle, Ng, Davies or Colwill (at their best) wouldn’t get into the Jacks team ? Really…………………. ????
Hmmmmm, on this subject one result really shouldn’t make the season !!

Presumably he’s excluding loan players as Doyle and Drameh would easily get into almost all the championship teams. I’d be very surprised if they’re both not playing Premier League football next season.
That aside I doubt Swansea would say no if they had the chance to sign one of McGuinness, Colwill, Ralls, Ng.

I saw this story earlier and completely agree with you.
Swansea are mid-table, only just above us. If they are good as Iwan Roberts (and Danny Gabbidon) are saying, they would be much higher. But they're not. The table doesn't lie. And as it stands, the table proves that there's not much between us in terms of quality. And we've only had half a season. Here's why:
Our season effectively started when SM made his quickfire changes on January 30th, when an almost complete miracle rebuild beat Forest precisely seven days after the Wurzels debacle. Under SM's current form, we would finish higher than Swansea if he'd been here from the season start. Not play off form but not far behind it. Lesser teams than our current squad have beat Swansea.
For Roberts to say that Smithies would be the only player to get in is lazy desktop punditry at its finest - the jerks have always said that Fisher was a weak link on their forums - that's where he read it.
The only person whose season has been defined by last Saturday's result is Russell Martin, as the jerks were calling for his head for playing 'possession' based football with no attacking flair and end product, hence their table position that proves their not that good. The 'Doube' will mean they finish in the same position next season as I can't see them investing and improving or changing manager after their day in the sun.
To juxtapose, there would only be 4 players I would take from the jerks squad and they would be far from my first choice from equal value and better players from elsewhere.
So the evidence proves to me that we lost quite simply that we were simply not up for it and the 'small-man syndrome' jerks were, by the very nature of that condition & with a manager given a lifeline. It wasn't determined by a better quality team. We simply didn't prepare off field and on field - Swansea did. They wanted it more. I hope SM has learned from this as apart from Saturday's disaster, he's done well under difficult circumstances.

On the performance on Saturday it is pretty obvious that city were 3rd or 4th best all over the place, but over the course of the last 4 months city have been pretty decent. Iwan is a bit thick isn't he.
We let the Jacks come to our place and *gave* them the biggest day of their lives - but let's be honest, they are not a great side... just much much better than us on the day. Having T-shirts made to commemorate the event, pathetic.
What we need to do is do the "doube" on them next season to even things out and then move on.

Every Swansea player on the day were better, miles better in fact over every cardiff player, was it the tactics, given time off at wrong time, international break,or simply just down to it just weren’t their day, like for like on any day before the derby,I’d have more cardiff than Swansea players, after the derby,I’m not to sure, are the cardiff players that good, they didn’t show it on the day

It's just like an Adrian Durham talksport piece, they do stories like this to sell papers and get a reaction, it's utter nonsense everyone knows it, they were at their best while we were at our worst

Recent form including them beating us and winning against Millwall this week has us both on 10 points, it's a non story

Man City lost to spurs and drew against Palace 1 game their supporters are not turning on the players or the manager I know it was the jacks but our supporters need to have a look at themselves.
We were going into league 1 and with Tann we be always in league 1 never get support as he blames the managers every time when its him for not supporting the managers with no money but Morrison got a team to pull away which is far more important than 1 game yes it hurts and we have to out up with the jacks bragging rights but I still think Morrison will turn this team around and we will turn it around next season against them and the worzels.

This is a great post but I’ve only read the op so I don’t know whether he was talking about this over the season or just on that one disastrous game.
If on the one game I’d tend to agree except for Drameh who had a decent game.
With regards to Morison he’s a keen, hungry and young manager who with a limited squad is trying to play the right way and the type of manager who most of us has been crying out for for a number of years.
He’s already admitted maybe making mistakes so I think he’ll definitely learn from this.
