Is this more cut backs? Just popped down the City

Mon Apr 04, 2022 2:08 pm

I just popped down the City to get my son some merchandise for his birthday, tried one Saturday, but was far to busy. Club shop was closed, then went to ticket office to ask that was bloody closed as well, went to main office had to wait for someone to come out and she explained.

In the time I was there, I saw myself at least 10 fans come down and then walk away , some fans might have come from mikes away.

City club shop from now on closed Sunday - Thursday’s

Ticket office only open match days.

Shocking

That reminds me of the days when we were in the old 4th Division with home crowds as low as 1,500.
I remember going down and to be fair the lady at reception would come out of the main office of Ninian Park and open up the :bluebird: shop for me

This should not happen in this New Stadium below with average crowds of over 19,000 and 250,000 on the fan base registered.

Ticket office open one day a week & Club shop 2 days.

Summer coming as well and fans want to buy stuff.

Talk about losing money, this is not how to run a football club or business.

Like most retail outlets, on-line is the way forward ....sadly.

First Wez,
It’s a service, 2nd, I know many fans go down their lunch times, 3rd most of the staff are young and on very low wages.
Our club is suppose to be a community club.

I totally disagree with you, the club has to be run professionally.

The staff have always been excellent and it only takes 2 staff to man it in the week.

Mate , I always shop in Asda and then pop over and buy a couple of things, we don’t all buy on line , I do not agree with this

Guess not much stock left; why pay staff to stand around: I wouldn’t if it were my business.
No need for ticket office to be open; can go online or phone through:

Probably loses money most Sundays-Thursdays. 5 staff members of 10 quid an hour will be costing 400/500 quid a day. Can’t imagine we’re making £3k in a usual Sun-Thur period at the end of the season.

Would still need to make about £1k a week to make some profit which I still can’t imagine happens between Sunday and Thursday. Bear in mind the people that would’ve shopped there on a Wednesday will now most likely do it online or go in person on a Friday or Saturday. It’s not like there’s other shops they can visit to buy Cardiff City branded merch.

How do you get customers wihen you are not open, Wez?

The club is supposed to be part of the community and even a skeleton staff during the week would enable supporters/visitors not to waste their time and (fuel) money on a wasted journey

It's not like they pay their creditable staff a fortune either, is it?

Chris I took a quick look at other clubs and 2 out the 3 I looked at have reduced hours as I posted so how many others done same? .... there must be a reason other clubs doing it as well... only way see it worthwhile our shop being open is to have just two staff at most even then bet they'll sit doing nothing most of day.. as for ticket office what's point opening during week when its easier and more convenient to ring or do online ? Again suppose could have 2 staff but is it worth clubs time to do it?

The club shop will open Monday to Saturday's as of April 11th and they'll see how it goes. More people are buying online and it has also been to lower staff costs. I'm pleased it's going to be open throughout the week again as it's good for fans and part of the community. The staff have always been excellent too.

That's great to hear, Paul... :ayatollah:

I agree whole-heartedly on the staff; always been very polite and helpful to me (shop and ticket office) and we need to remember they are losing out on wages whilst the shop remains closed fir long periods of the week

The club shop has been open since the stadium did. In that time we’ve also had an outlet in the city centre that flopped and shut down. I think there’s been more than enough time to identify that it’s just not worth keeping it open.

People would be going mad if it was a player even on something “small” like a couple grand a week doing f all

Every time I go in there I come out dizzy at the cost of things in the shop and pretty poor quality also.
