Sorry SM is just not ready
It was like Mike Bassett out there, 532, 442, 433 then god knows.
We didn't press, they realised our 532 gives loads of space outside Ralls and Doyle they had to go to their spare man which opened up the centre of the midfield.
They handled Hugil well with two men and falling to the ground.
Ralls, Doyle and Wintle will come in for criticism but they never had a chance. Their 3 at the back is far more aggressive and daring than ours, we really are playing at it. Loads of time all their players were in our half so we were out gunned.
Even we can't sack him a month after extending.

Most importantly. No change from the bench. There is no plan B.
Said it a few months back. He needs to learn. Is he?!

I agree it was clear from the first few minutes that the way we set up was going to be a problem and it's SM job to change things like did we need 3 CB's today? His inexperience shone through today and as a result we failed to ask a serious question of Swansea.

I said previously that Swansea are not a dangerous side until if play tippy tappy football but when they change to a more adventurous game they tend to go well and score... morison told them yesterday our team and tactics by saying colwill was on bench result martin then knew how we would set up so he played adventurous game from start which obviously overwhelmed our midfield as we are known for being slow going forward and 3 backs against 1 attacker crazy just like no one upfront for the corner we defended
which allowed them to get ball outside area for 2nd goal as nobody near to close down.... full marks to Martin for tactics played...on another note its obvious that we need a natural goal scorer one fitter missed one easy header missed and another excellent opportunity went begging because of poor control...and that's been story of our season.... score the sitter at 1-0 and maybe just maybe it changes their game plan ... but we will never know

if all football management is just completing your Eufa coaching badges and have a bit of luck being gifted a decent job then where do i sign up ?
Surely that's just the entry requirements and you start off down the pyramid ? This has always been my fear with SM, we have no idea what he is about.
I don't particularly like the way Martin plays but it suited the Jack core beliefs, what is SM really about ?
Our seasons improvement came about with Hugil being better (or more interested) than Moore, replacing the too slow and cautious Pack for Wintle, Stopped playing NG as a wingback and getting a kid who will be in a top half premier league club next season and that bit of obvious class in Tommy Doyle. We still play with three ponderous centre halfs and a target man.
Yesterday, Bagan was never caught out of position up field because he was in a back line and barely ventured forward, the Jacks just popped their wing back up high and Bagan covered him all game. That left us 5 covering 3 of their forwards, or our 5 midfielders and forwards against their 8, no wonder Ralls and Doyle (worse game so far) were chasing shadows then leaving acres of space to make Wintle look totally one paced and lost.
I was (am) in the minority and didn't want us to extend SM contract, not because i dislike SM but because surely we could have found someone with a bit of form in the book.
It was a lazy decision from a lazy club. I have never been in the anti Vinny gang, but he needs to get a grip

Yep definately out coached.
Did you notice the old tactic of putting one defender in front and behind of our attacker. Nullifies hold up play and longer ball.
What did we change through the game yesterday as it slipped away from us, players but no tactics.

Some very good points from the OP here but I still have faith in Steve Morison and his ability to move us forward given time and backing...

Unfortunately, I think he is fatally wounded by the manner of this defeat and some of the arrogance shown in his press conference. He should have apologised. This defeat is seismic and possibly one of the biggest I can remember in many a decade. Is this fair on Morison? Possibly not. But the reality is football and football fans are fickle and he's blown all the goodwill he had to pieces. Any poor run now and the knives will be out. Its a shame because I thought he had promise but sadly I think he is already finished. Deep down I think he knows that too hence the ultra defensive press conference.

For all the hand-wringing on here at the moment, which I totally understand, SM won the 3 most crucial games he's been in charge this season, away to Barnsley and home to both Peterborough and Derby. Defeats in either or all of those games could have spelled disaster for the club but his team got through them successfully and until yesterday had acquitted themselves very well in recent weeks.
Yes, he may turn out to be Neil Harris MkII but you've got to give the guy a chance next season to show his real worth. Let him put together a brand new team with whatever resources are at his disposal and if it becomes obvious that he has not learnt the lessons from yesterday's performance, then like his predecessor he will be on his way soon enough.

Generally speaking, Morisson has been brave and aggressive when it comes to using his bench and has used it well. He makes subs early and attacking ones. Many times subs have come off the bench to score, assist, or make an impact. Yesterday didn't work out, at all. But it won't change my judgment on him.
I like Morisson, and we need to stick together during these times, not turn on each other. A lot of players need a long hard look at themselves, and probably a little push out of the door too in some cases.
This game will be one that goes down in history, we won't hear the end of it. Hopefully, though we can bounce back, and have a strong season next season where we finish somewhere meaningful. At the end of the day, that is the most important thing.

I have to agree with the OP here. We were outthought from start to finish. The way Swansea handled Hugill nullified his ability to hold the ball up and get the rest of our team up the pitch. We couldn't keep hold of the ball, lost it quickly and got pegged back into our own half. We then sat deep and watched Swansea pop the ball around in front of us and because of the extra overloads they were creating, they could pass through the lines and advance up the pitch.
There is no denying Russell Martin got the better of Steve Morison. 5 minutes before kick off, Russell Martin walked over to their fans and clapped them, getting them roaring for kick off. In contrast, our fans were quiet and nervous and so were our team. Swansea's centre backs were receiving the ball off the keeper unchallenged, leisurely playing out from the back, being allowed to settle down with no pressing, energy, intensity, character or leadership from our players or manager.
When there was a break in play in the first half, Russell Martin calls a few Swansea players over to communicate more orders, while Steve Morison does nothing. You would think it would be the other way around with us being 1-0 down at the time, dominated and outsmarted all over the pitch. I was disappointed with Morison's lack of reaction. A good manager would have been far more animated, identifying the problems Swansea were causing us and yelling instructions at the players to adjust.
I know Doyle was booked, but I was surprised Morison subbed him and left the struggling Ralls on. I thought Ralls had a shocker, the ball was like a hot potato with him, constantly panicking on the ball and giving it away. I would like to know what Ralls' pass completion was, especially in the first half. However, I was relatively happy with our starting 11 and I was not expecting us to get dominated like that, which means the problem was our tactical game plan by our manager.
Currently, I'm still happy for Morison to be given the opportunity to rebuild his own team next season. Then he will have no excuses, it will be his team with his own players brought in. I do wonder if certain players have downed tools after his "don't take the p!ss" comments. Ralls for their third goal was unforgivable, choosing to complain to the ref instead of chasing the loose ball and effectively, giving up to allow them to start the attack to score. Is Morison starting to lose the dressing room, are some players no longer wlling to play for him? Max Watters liking a Russell Martin post suggests his feelings on Morison, probably for being subbed before half time, although I did agree with Morison for that decision.
I'm concerned with some of Morison's comments and he doesn't seem able to handle criticism. However, he's learning as he goes along and until yesterday, he was starting to improve us. He's shown he can identify a good player to improve us. I thought Cody Drameh was fantastic yesterday. On the other side of the coin, has yesterday shown lots of our players don't have the character to represent our football club. Do we have too many "snowflakes", unable to handle Morison's honest opinions and instead of using his constructive criticism as a positive to prove him wrong, instead down tools to let our football club down? It certainly looked that way yesterday.
I'm concerned if Morison has lost the dressing room, we could now go on a terrible run of form again for the rest of the season, but this could be good in the long run to know which players can't be trusted and need to be discarded. What I think is clear with Morison is it's going to be his way, or no way. Morison will have the opportunity to rebuild our squad next season and with his successful player recruitment so far, I'm looking forward to seeing the team he assembles for us next season. I do believe Morison will bring in players with a better character to what we currently have. Whether that will give us a promising season next season, we will have to wait and see.
