STEVE MORISON:

Latest team news: :bluebird:

Yeah everyone is fine. Today is our first session as a group - so as long as that goes OK we are all fit and healthy.

Steve Morison

Morison is asked for his thoughts on Cardiff v Swansea?

It’s a tough one. It’s more than just another game - but it’s another opportunity to get three points.

There’ll be a few more people there than normal. It’s a great game to have off the back of the Wales games because there’s an excitement about it.

We haven’t really been around each other, everyone has been in different places, it just feels like another game.

Steve Morison

Morison on Rubin Colwill's first Wales goal

Yeah I am really pleased for him. It’s always good to score your first goal and he performed well as well. Everyone said congratulations to him.

STEVE MORISON:

Can Colwill take that form into club level?

It’s all confidence. It’s all a boost. When you are a forward player it’s like a monkey off your back - getting that goal.

For him, he has gone there, got an opportunity, taken it and scored. It just adds to his confidence that he’s got in abundance anyway.

STEVE MORISON:

Morison on the lack of a derby double?

Yeah. It’s not something we will be talking about! Our focus will be on winning the game, which will take care of that stat anyway.

It’s no different to not having won at QPR for 12 years, which we didn’t talk about before that game either.

This will be my first game against Swansea - it’s nothing to do with me, what happened in the first game.

STEVE MORISON:

Morison on former Norwich team mate Russell Martin?

Yeah, Russ was a top, top player. I joined Norwich when he was there. He was excellent, I really enjoyed playing with him.

The Premier League, Championship etc, worked his way through the leagues but stayed at the top end a lot longer than I did.

It’s strange, because you never know what someone has got going through their head in terms of where they want to get to. Russ is a very intelligent guy and went into management earlier than I did.

He’s a top guy. I saw him at Wales-Austria the other night and we had a good half an hour chatting about stuff and shared some good memories.

Hopefully we share the side of the pitch on Saturday and I come out with a win and we have that memory!

Morison on the atmosphere for Cardiff v Swansea?

Hopefully a better one than we have had in recent games! Hopefully it’ll be more like the Wales-Austria game and the Wales fixtures at CCS.

We have to play our part in that by performing.

They are going to dominate the ball, because they do that in all of their games. But it’ll be a case of trying to control the atmosphere and emotions.

When the moment comes, it’s about putting your stamp on the game.

STEVE MORISON:

Coaching staff, are they sorted contract-wise, pleased?

Yeah, there was never any issue with it. When I signed no one asked the question.

People have different things going on and it takes longer in some cases than others.

I needed to get done because whoever needed to replace me might not have wanted them. But it’s nice now to have that continuity and clarity so we can plan together.

STEVE MORISON:

How is it getting players back together?

We haven’t really got much of a choice. We have had 11 players since the Stoke game to work with. They have worked incredibly hard, they’ve had their down time, so have we, as staff. We came back in, ready to work this week.

Everybody, Macca, Joel, Will, Rubin, Isaak, they all came back in yesterday after playing or travelling, so today we will do our meeting in a bit, get out on to the grass and make sure they are ready to play tomorrow.

STEVE MORISON:

Rubin, ups and downs, highs and lows, what does he need to add to his game?

He needs to add in all areas of his game. I get a bit frustrated when I read a lot of the stuff because everyone talks about him like he’s the finished article.

I’m going to base Rubin Colwill with what Pep Guardiola did with Phil Foden.

He’ll be put in, taken out. The Phil Foden one took two years. Now he’s the first name on England’s team sheet. Now he’s the first name on Man City’s team sheet.

He will be managed 100% correctly. I will not be influenced by the outside noise.

I will have a chat with him after this press conference about the outside noise. He needs to understand where he is.

As soon as he and you guys believe he is the finished article, he will have a shot.

Special talents like Gareth Bale come on the scene, look at the two years he had at Spurs, didn’t win a game! Now he’s arguably one of the best British players ever to have played the game.

Rubin is a special talent. He has got lots of good attributes. There is not a football player in the world who hasn’t got things to work on. He needs to manage himself, you guys need to manage him and I need to manage him.

Re: STEVE MORISON:

Vincent Tan is bringing in a £12,000 a week wage cap for next season for Steve Morison in the Championship.

It looks like Joe Ralls will be Cardiff’s highest earner next season in that reduced wage of £12,000 a week if he signs a new deal he has been offered.

So far NONE of the the other 10 players whose contracts expire have been offered a new one, Morrison, Flint, Smithies, Brown etc etc

Gone are the £20,000 a week players at Cardiff City.

STEVE MORISON:

Do you think Wales are pushing Rubin Colwill too much?

No. I think England did it, taking some players away just for the experience.

He had a summer of learning now rather than at the age of 25. There was always a plan for that.

If they get to the World Cup, he would be more than just a spectator, arguably.

If Wales had their strongest team, like the Austria game, he didn’t play. Very much like what we are doing.

My strongest XI at the minute, he maybe doesn’t get in it every time. There will be games where he does.

Gareth Bale sits on the bench for Real Madrid but carries his country to the World Cup!

STEVE MORISON:

Morison is asked if he's frustrated by the hype around Colwill?

Not at all! It’s brilliant. It’s unbelievable. It’s great learning for me.

If I was a bit less like I am I would maybe be like ‘Oh my gosh I’ve got to play Rubin Colwill tomorrow or I will get annihilated!’

It’s more than just that individual. There’s a hell of a lot more to it.

The more press we get and the players get, it shows we are doing something right.

I was sitting there today saying I had press today, and I knew it was going to be about Rubin Colwill, Gareth Bale and the South Wales derby!

Gareth Bale has nailed his SW derby colours to the mast!

Cardiff City boss Steve Morison on Bale: "I saw him every day he was here in Wales camp, I said 'hello' to him every day, all he said to me was ‘Make sure you beat Swansea!’, that's the only comment he made to me!" #CCFC

Thoughts on the transfer talk around Gareth Bale?

STEVE MORISON:

Until someone rings me and actually says that is an option - it’s not something I will worry about.

It’s an absolute pipe dream - nothing to worry about. I saw him every day, I said hello to him every day, all he said to me was ‘Make sure you beat Swansea!’

Outside of that there’s been no conversation about that.
