Peter Whittingham will forever be remembered at Cardiff City :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff City have confirmed that they intend to hold a special a memorial match for legendary former Bluebird Peter Whittingham later this year.

The Bluebirds hero sadly passed away two years ago ago today, and there have been growing calls for the club to further honour one of their finest ever servants.

Fans have previously called for a stand to be named after the midfielder, or even a statue outside Cardiff City Stadium, where his name currently adorns a banner hanging above the Canton End stand of the ground.

Now, on the two-year anniversary of Whittingham's tragic passing, the club has now confirmed it will host a special tribute match later in the year.

It's not quite clear who will take part in the showpiece one-off fixture, which is currently due to take place in November, but it promises to be an emotional occasion for Cardiff fans.

Peter Whittingham was just 35 when he passed away.

In a tweet confirming the news, Cardiff said: "Peter’s memorial match will take place at Cardiff City Stadium later this year, with planning now in its advanced stages.

I have to admit I was quite emotional during the minute's applause before the game on Wednesday night

Well done Cardiff for getting it sorted!

Still think we should name a stand after him though. Legend in the true sense of the word and his name will live on forever.

Agreed, a very emotional moment.

Glad the club are finally doing this.

It's a great shame that the club never made a testimonial match when Whitts was with us. But at least he will get his match and I hope all the cardiff legends return for it like they did for Kev McNaughton.
