Steve Morison explains why Uche Ikpeazu hasn't yet made a Ca

Steve Morison explains why Uche Ikpeazu hasn't yet made a Cardiff City start after Middlesbrough striker.

Steve Morison says Uche Ikpeazu is in contention for a first Cardiff City start but admits he's currently happy with the striker's role as an impact sub.

The Middlesbrough loanee once again produced a bright cameo from the bench on Saturday, and emerged with plenty of credit after twice being denied by Daniel Iversen in the Preston goal in the latter stages of what was a contest largely devoid of goalmouth action at both ends.

The 27-year-old is yet to make start for the Bluebirds since his January capture, but has netted three times off the bench since his arrival in the capital.

This latest solid outing may well have given his boss something to think about over the coming weeks, although Morison later revealed that the forward would have started the defeat to Fulham had he not succumbed to illness.

In any case, the Bluebirds boss admits he isn't sure the Ugandan would have the same impact on his side were he thrown in from the off.

STEVE MORISON:

"He was due to start the game and then obviously he was ill," he explained after the goalless draw with Preston. "From our point of view, it's weighing up whether he has the impact because he's coming of the bench

"It's about working out whether if he can have that impact for 60, 70, 80, 90 minutes.

"He did well when he came on today. It was a game that suited him.

"Obviously I had to take Isaak [Davies] off. It wasn't his day. We felt that rather than bring Mark Harris on against their physical back three, we needed someone who could match them up in that moment.

"Everyone's up for consideration. I just try and pick the best team I can."

One man who probably doesn't need to worry about starting games at the moment is Alex Smithies, who proved his worth once again with two smart saves to keep Preston at bay.

"He's been fantastic since I've taken over," Morison added.

I am not Uche greatest fan, but they just threw Isaak Davies around like a rag doll, the ref let a lot go for both sides and was fair. That changed when the big fella came on.

Definitely see he was a Warnock buy, he has a unique skill set. As a Warnock buy i doubt there will be many takers for him, so Boro will have to drop their price and offer Uche an incentive to transfer as we Know Warnock pays well.

Worth a start with two quicker players up with him

I personally def hope we don’t sign him next season, week in week out not good enough and expensive wages.

Wez agreed, It feels like a different era and shame how it turned out but when Malky signed Nicky Maynard it felt like something new from our imprinted 442 big man little man combo's. The football world had moved on and probably has since.

Malkys football somedays was horrendous and a chore even with the talent but he did the business but he did teach us the second ball is more important than winning route one first ball.

Hugil is the best since Bothroyd at controlling difficult balls but has the game gone a different way ?

I'd play Colwell there in a 443, so there be no point hitting it long except if its over the full backs head for our wide forward to chase. But as that eliminates 99.9% of Flints "passes" he'd have to go as well.

I know he’s the fans favourite and they are giving him plenty of confidence but there’s something just not right about him don’t get me wrong I don’t dislike him he’s a loveable character but I don’t think he’s good enough but he could prove me wrong

This is an interesting one.

Before Saturday I wasn't that fussed and thought he was just a battering ram. But when he came on he showed there's a bit more to him.

He showed fast feet, a turn of pace and hit the target, as well as the physical stuff he gives you.

I worry that he can't do it for a full game but now's the time to try that out and then make a decision for next season. He's not a number one striker but, at the moment, he appears to be a better back up than Collins !!
