John Toshack out of Covid-19 intensive care

Former Wales manager John Toshack is no longer in intensive care after being admitted to hospital in Spain having contracted Covid-19.

The 72-year-old was hospitalised last month, reportedly suffering from pneumonia brought on by coronavirus.

Toshack is now breathing without the aid of a ventilator.

He has also been able to speak to members of his family.

And me. Saw him play for the City. A pity he left us so early. Him and Clarkie together were great.

Toshack awarded me my first ever football trophy for winning the Cardiff and district school league. It was in the City hall in front of a large audience and I remember going up with David Giles and shaking Tosh’s hand thinking wow he’s a giant!

I too was lucky enough to see Tosh play for us - went on to achieve great things with Liverpool.

Of all our local lads he probably reached the greatest heights in terms of trophies etc.

Never lost his Cardiff accent.
Went to Canton High when it was in Canton same time as my sister - sadly she married an Englishman…

Yes, he partnered Clarkey in my first ever game I watched at Ninian Park (Clarkey scored but not Tosh)
