Thee is a very good, even heart warming interview with Burkey on the CCFC website and twitter. Well worth a read:

What a wonderful piece.

I know players are always going to say nice things but he seems so, so genuine.

How unassuming of him to say that he thought we needed someone other than him to take us up. Especially in this day and age of many pretentious players.

One of my fav City players ever. Such a nightmare for defenders on his day. Game changing player.

Great article. I was gutted when he went to Brum, interesting on his reasons for his move, he was very much part of the backbone of the squad. Pleased he's still plying his trade too, top guy.

Loved his interview a few years ago with steve Thompson , did a fantastic mime of Bellamy when super Kev mis hit the ball to him.
Said he stood hand on hips , game was on going giving Kevin the evil eye

What were his reasons mate as I was always of the opinion that he wanted to move closer to Scotland and when he ended at Brum it was all a bit confusing.

It's interesting mate as in the interview he says:

“It was very difficult. The reason why I left, people probably don’t think about it as much from the outside, but sometimes, you think you’re maybe the reason you didn’t go up. A part of me, as much as I was successful at Cardiff, I just never got there.

“I thought they maybe needed a new player to take them to that next level. It was maybe time for a fresh start for me because I didn’t know who the manager was going to be and if he was going to want me.

“I hoped that the club would progress into the Premier League without me and they did, so it was a good decision! It was an amazing achievement for the club.”

My view at the time was that I seem to recall that Brum were on the ascendancy and I thought he made the move for potential PL football and I do think your also right in also making a move closer to Scotland. I was both surprised and gutted when he left as he was a very talented player who'd run himself into the ground every game - precisely the sort of player that Bluebirds adore, win, draw or lose. Seems a very decent bloke, obviously enjoyed his time here and it would be nice if he could attend a game so we could give him his song again.
