I saw him once when me and the missus were visiting our friends down in Cornwall. Walking towards us on the coast with his family, it was one of those "I know that face" moments.

The BBC’s Middle East editor - who was born and bred in Cardiff -

He has spent the last 30 years attempting to follow the fortunes of the Welsh team from war-torn environments around the world .

“I used to go and watch Cardiff City. My heroes were John Toshack, Ronnie Bird, Peter King.

“My father, Gareth, worked for the BBC, but he also worked for newspapers before that and always did quite a bit of writing.

“He used to have a column in the Football Echo, called The Man on the Bob Bank.

“He liked all sports and actually did a bit of rugby reporting for the Times, but football and Cardiff City was his main thing.

“So we would go down to Ninian Park on a Saturday and my brother Nicholas and I used to go in the boys enclosure in the Grange End :bluebird:
