MY VIEW FROM SOMEONE THERE - HUDDERSFIELD 2 CARDIFF 1

Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:55 pm

Gutted so don't expect a cheerful post.

The evening started off on a bad note. I had to park at least a mile away from the ground. I could not find any available parking near enough to the place. it was raining as I walk to the ground and I though if we lose this is going to be the worst walk back to the car ever. That came to pass as we all know now.

I got to the ground and went on a merry walk trying to find the ticket office to pick up my tickets. Eventually I got into the away end where the Cardiff lads were in good voice. It was a positive atmosphere and that was down to everyone feeling a lot better now we are pushing away from the bottom. No one expected a win though but no one really cared. Unless we go on a bad run I felt it is going to be like this for the rest of the season.

I got into my seat about 30 minutes before KO. The players were out on the pitch warming up. This gave me the chance to look up into the heavens and it was a horrible picture. all you could see was the drizzly rains being blown across the pitch. The away stand although it had a roof you could feel this rain hitting your face. I watched the game with my hood up. To our left was perhaps the home side most hardcore supporters who until they scored you would have heard a pin drop onto the floor. Us away fans were in a corner behind one of the goals that we defended in the first half.

After about 5 minutes into the game you could work out what tactics both teams were going ot play. Huddersfield decided to attack using the wide game. All their attacks came from the side lines with most of them aiming to break down Jo Bagan. Bagan did very well by blocking most of the crosses and those that got pass him we of poor quality which we were able to defend with ease. The only real chance the home side got fell to ex Bluebird Danny Ward. From a lucky deflection of a Cardiff player the ball fell to him just outside the 6 yard box. He only managed to lob the ball over the crossbar as the bounce did not favour him. We in the away end started sing "Danny, Danny Ward" then asked him to do the Ayatollah. As he ran back to the half way line he obliged doing the Ayatollah to our delight.

Our plan was to defend and hit them on the attack. We did this quite well and had at least 3 good chances but unfortunately did not test their keeper out to well although he had to make a save or 2. So come halftime we felt we could have quite easily been in the lead.

The second half was very much the same with them attacking but going nowhere, us defending looking for the break and us away fans making all the noise. We were awesome from the start until they got their winner. Half way through the second half we got the breakthrough. it was a well executed goal where we broke through their middle resulting in a delightful touch from Tony Doyle to give us the lead. After that we looked very comfortable for the win and should have taken a 2 goal lead when Mark Harris was through. Instead of going for goal he hesitated and let them get back behind the ball. Everyone felt that could turn the game.

Huddersfield then changed their plan and instead f trying to get to the bye line they decided to put the crosses in from the side lines further back. it worked as they got their 2 goals in the last 10 minutes. After they got their equaliser it felt they would go on to win. the second goal was one of those gut wrenching moments for us that you don't get back up from. the home fans finally you could hear them and from the stand on the left they gave it back big time to us.

We applauded our guys of the pitch, just one of those games, and we all left the ground. the home stays stayed to enjoy the moment. For me the walk back to the car was a nightmare. The rain poured down and it felt deliberate on me. Horrible walk back and my rainproof coat proved itself it was not rainproof. I got to my car, threw my coat on the back seat, turned the nav on and said to myself "Lets get out of here".

Yes it was great to see you again Steve. Talk about going from a high to low hey? Saying that it did feel like it was going to end on a low.
