Rest players for Fulham?

Thu Feb 24, 2022 10:12 am

I’d play Ikpeazu up front with Harris
Rest Wintle and Doyle
Bring them bank in fresh for the game v Derby.

There could be a lot of running around on Saturday so I suggest keeping some players fresh.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Beat Derby next week and we can then definitely stop any possible relegation worries :ayatollah:

I think I would, it makes sense to prioritise wins against all the teams below and around us, then we can experiment a bit.

Are you suggesting 39 points will be enough to avoid relegation?

Whereas I now believe we have a good chance of avoiding the drop, we will need around 45 points. Derby have 21 points with 12 games left. Winning 7 of them, a tough ask, will give them 42 points which is why I think 45 might be plenty.

I think you may be right Barclay. This is why I’m suggesting not using our key players on Saturday and running then into the ground. Would rather get 3 points v Derby and lose v Fulham than lose v Fulham and have a knackered dude ready to face Derby who will more than likely be fighting for every ball.

Whereas the sentiment is admirable and maybe correct, resting players against a team of Fulhams quality might end up in a hammering which irrespective of the playrrs we rest, might have a negative effect on the Derby game anyway...

These re pro footballers, the difference between us and Fulham or top and bottom is the top teams are able to rotate without losing quality. We used to be able to do this week in week out, but no more....

Fair point. Providing they’re all fit and not running on empty - I’m thinking of Doyle in particular as he’s deffo not used to playing this regularly.

No need to rest Vaulks, just drop him.

4-4-2 tomorrow surely? Play 3 in midfield and City will be swamped and under siege.

Play the FA cup team, they could just do it they gave Liverpool a game, and it would throw Fulham's game plan out of the window, all playing to impress to make the first team !!!!

Ridiculous suggestion! You always play your best team, it’s the Championship, we could beat Fulham and lose to Derby! We almost beat Huddersfield and they beat Fulham!

So two centre midfielders instead of three?

That will get us swamped.

Huddersfield won at Fulham and their manager admitted they went 4-4-2 to match up Fulham.
I can see a problem though as we haven’t got a balanced midfield 4 as there’s no winger.

Who are you to scoff at the suggestion as ‘ridiculous’? Quite a few seem to agree or can at least see the point.
