Carl Serrant leaves Cardiff City to join James Rowberry at Newport County

Serrant replaces Wayne Hatswell who has left join to Mike Flynn at Walsall

Carl Serrant has left his post with Cardiff City to join Newport County as assistant manager.

Wayne Hatswell left the Exiles this week to join Walsall to link up Mike Flynn, with Serrant now his successor at Rodney Parade.

Serrant spent the past five years in the Welsh capital and now links up once again with James Rowberry, who left the Bluebirds for the top job at County last October.

Serrant said: "I'm delighted to be here, it's been a bit of a whirlwind and things have progressed really quickly but once I had the conversation with James [Rowberry] it's something that I didn't want to turn down and wanted to grasp with both hands."

Rowberry, who is spearheading a promotion charge in east Wales, thanked his former club for helping the recruitment process run smoothly.

Rowberry said: "I'm delighted to welcome Carl to our club, Carl brings a wealth of experience and complements our current staffing structure.

"I would like to thank Cardiff City for allowing this process to happen smoothly and quickly. I'm sure you'll all welcome Carl on Saturday against Tranmere
."

Serrant was responsible for fitness and conditioning at Cardiff City Stadium and was part of the effort that got the club promotion to the Premier League in 2018.
