Are conversations happening with players?

It’s more of a club decision, to be honest.

From the club’s point of view, we have had conversations but they are all hypothetical and not set in stone.

No one has come knocking on my door and asking about contracts, because everyone knows we are right in the middle of a fight we need to get out of. Once that happens I’m sure things will escalate a bit more.

I’m sure if I signed a contract tomorrow then those conversations would happen even quicker.

But that’s just where we are at the minute. It’s not a conversation I can overly have with the players.

STEVE MORISON:

Cardiff are now closer to the top six than bottom three - thoughts?

You have to pick a team that best suits your needs.

We are 19th but closer to the play-offs than the bottom.

But you want to get away from the bottom. You want to play the games and look at the younger players.

Joel, playing these games, looks like he has more pressure off him and is expressing himself more.

The basics of the game you have to do well otherwise you’ll get beaten.

There is stuff you want to experiment and look for ahead of next season.

The complete evolution will be in the off-season.But it’ll be interesting to try and be a little bit different at times if the games allow us to.

We’re not worrying too much about it at the moment. But until we can get to a position where we can do that freely we won’t be tinkering too much just yet.

STEVE MORISON:

How would you assess performance levels?

We are going to be up and down in our performance.

We were up and down within 90 minutes.

We are trying to find that level of consistency. Even when we had a down day at Millwall we still weren’t blown out of the water.

They are learning all the time. It’s really good and really fun to be a part of.

We’ve still got to win a few more games so we can add more facets to our game.

It’s more of a consistency of application and attitude.

STEVE MORISON:

On the Huddersfield game

They’ve been excellent.

They were a big part of me staying on in the job! That was a good day [the 2-1 win].

Hopefully we can go up there and spoil their run - 17 games unbeaten.

All good things must come to an end. Let’s hope we can be the team to do that.

It’s a game we are really looking forward to.

Cardiff City manager Steve Morison praised the "excellent" form of Leeds United loanee Cody Drameh following the draw with Blackpool.

Drameh was one of the standouts again during the stalemate at Cardiff City Stadium, affecting the game positively in both defence and attack.

And Morison believes Drameh's energy and consistency have helped to raise the team's standards during their run of earning 13 points out of a possible 18 over the last six matches.

STEVE MORISON:

"He text me on the way in to say he had a headache!" Morison said of Drameh after the Blackpool clash.

"We gave him a bit of stick - he tried coming out in gloves today, but I wasn't having that! I made him take them off straight away.

"He has been excellent. He was excellent in his first game, he was excellent at Barnsley, it was a right scrap but there were a few things when he was running back and making last-ditch tackles.

"He had a little bit of a down game, the Bristol City game, but outside of that he has been excellent. Having that break in the Liverpool game when he couldn't play, letting his body catch up on where it needs to be, now he is like a Duracell Bunny, isn't he? He just keeps going and going.

"You look at Tommy Doyle right there at the end when we are under the cosh and he is still making runs back.

"People will ask why they would benefit from these loans, these players from these big clubs, and it's that. It's having to put yourself through that extra bit of pain because you're winning, losing or drawing a game. You'll never get that at under-23s level."

Drameh's Bluebirds team-mate Ryan Wintle also explained how the player's seemingly boundless energy helps Cardiff to get on the front foot.

"You can see that style of play where he has come from Leeds, he is very erratic and he just goes and presses people," Wintle added.

STEVE MORISON:

Blow to lose Watters?

Yeah, definitely. It’s never nice to lose a player, it’s really unfortunate how it happened.

It goes with the territory. He’ll be fine, hopefully.

Six weeks is the minimum, so we will aim for six. Let’s hope he doesn’t need surgery or anything like that.

Player contract news?

STEVE MORISON:

There are no contract talks or anything until a manager is in place, because that’s just not fair.

It’s not right for me to make a contract decision on a player if it’s not going to be me in charge.

Someone else might want that player and that might be their argument.

Until something happens with myself then I can’t see anything happening just yet.

Carlos Corberan on Fulham win

Carlos Corberan has opened up on how his side beat Fulham on Saturday, and it includes a hat tip to a former Bluebird.

“Today we felt the best shape to defend in was the 4-4-2," he said.

“We defended with eight players and left two players with O’Brien and Danny Ward, who are different profiles of players – one to keep the ball and one to keep the runs in behind.

“It was the same on the side, one winger with speed and the other with more quality to create.

“They key today was defending with the option of being able to counter-attack, to try to balance the game, and this is for me what the team did in the first half.”

Cardiff City striker Max Watters will be out for at least six weeks with an ankle injury, Steve Morison has confirmed.

The Bluebirds forward challenged Oliver Denham for a header in training last Thursday, but landed awkwardly on his left foot when coming down from the aerial collision.

Watters left the training ground on crutches and in a protective boot and while that was only deemed precautionary at the time, the knock is enough to keep him out for some time.

He was ruled out of the draw with Blackpool at the weekend and Morison has confirmed it will sideline him for a number of weeks.

"Max Watters is a minimum of six weeks," Morison said.

"It’s never nice to lose a player, it’s really unfortunate how it happened. It goes with the territory. He’ll be fine, hopefully.

It came after Morison held clear-the-air talks with the player following his 37th-minute substitution against Coventry last week.

The manager said he, the player and sports performance coach Steve Sallis had a "brilliant" chat with the player and was looking forward to his response.

Elsewhere, there is positive news regarding Joe Ralls.

Ralls missed the game at the weekend owing to a "knock", but Morison confirmed the midfielder is back in training and in contention for the midweek clash with Huddersfield Town.

Curtis Nelson is still missing, while Isaac Vassell and Sean Morison are out for the season.

Cardiff take on Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium at 7.45pm on Wednesday.
