MY VIEW: AFTER TWO HOME WINS IN A ROW CITY TONIGHT MADE IT

Tue Feb 15, 2022 9:31 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

AFTER TWO HOME WINS IN A ROW CITY TONIGHT MADE IT THREE HOME WINS IN A ROW, DESPITE NOT PLAYING AT THEIR BEST & COVENTRY DOMINATING POSSESSION.

But as they say 3pts is 3pts and very happy to get them :bluebird: :bluebird:

Steve Morison, deserves nothing but praise as City start climbing the table :bluebird: :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

For me this is clearing us of a relegation battle.

Very sad to see a more than half empty stadium, the team deserves much better support.

My Man of the match Joel Bagan :bluebird: :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

1ST-HALF: Coventry were the better team, Cardiff struggled and Coventry could of had a couple of penalties, over all not great first-half by Cardiff.
Cardiff need to improve.

2ND-HALF: Coventry dominated possession, but City got the goals that mattered :bluebird: :bluebird:

CARDIFF CITY 2 COVENTRY CITY 0 :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff City: Smithies; Ng, Flint, McGuinness; Drameh, Wintle, Vaulks, King, Bagan; Watters, Davies.

WHAT A WASTED CHANCE

What a chance!

Drameh did brilliantly to win possession on halfway and then sprints 40 yards with th eball. He squares it to Hugill, who scuffs it straight at Moore!

56th min: King off, Doyle on.

Flint booked

Wintle booked for a foul on O'Hare.

GOAL! Cardiff City 1-0 Coventry City (Bagan 72)
GOAL! What a strike from Bagan! :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Oh, that was some goal. The left back picks it up near the flank and cuts inside Ben Sheaf before sending a wonderful, bending effort with his right foot flying past Simon Moore and into the far corner.

Stunner from the youngster. That's two in two for him! :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

76th min:

What a Save!

What a brilliant stop from Smithies.

Gyokeres with a diving header from point-blank range but Smithies sticks out a big boot to deny him. Terrific stuff from the keeper.

79th min;
Mark Harris on for Isaak Davies.

Quite night for Davies.

GOAL! Cardiff City 2-0 Coventry City (Harris 87)
Harris scores! :bluebird: :bluebird:

Far from the best performance, but 3 points is all that matters.

Two well taken goals and further away from the relegation zone :bluescarf: :bluescarf:.

Games like this will always happen in this league. If you can play bad and win it's always a good sign.

Please with the result obviously but more so because I felt Coventry were the better side.

We struggle with possession and had no outlet in the first half. Fortunately Coventry tired quickly in the 2nd half and we took full advantage. Two great goals if you ask me and they came at the right time.

Lets enjoy the win and get these next 2 wins soon to be safe.

We were over run in midfield all of the 1st half, Coventry were the better team but we scored 2 lovely goals and that wins football matches.

We were poor for 20 mins but coming back into it when Morison made the sub. Lots of passing around their back 4 and us waiting in shape. Thought Vaulks and Wintle had good games, Flint always scares me when he has the ball and please no contract for next season, a great servant but thats enough.

Fully understand why Morison felt he needed to rest a few at the start but Ikpeazu doesn’t need a rest. If he had started alongside Harris or Davies we could have had an option for holding the ball up. Poor Watters can’t run the channels or hold the ball up, too slow and without the physical presence or strength. One thing struck me repeatedly last night was the desire to play through but with King not wanting the ball or to take it under any pressure at all, we needed Wintle to take the ball and he doesn’t demand it. He was repeatedly in space but the option wasn’t taken and we went long or back. Part of playing just in front of the back four, centrally, is to demand the ball and just recycle it but always be available to take it even under pressure. Once Doyle was one, we kept the ball a bit better and brought Drameh into play on our right more effectively. So, the way we play, demands one of the front me can hold the ball up - lesson learned!!

I watched this back this morning - the ball was behind Hugill, who could only scoop it up against the turf into Moore's hands. Small margins, but a yard in front and that would have been another fabulous assist from Drameh. Our loans have been outstanding, and have been the difference since they were recruited by the club.

In defence of City

Over the course of the season so far City have conceded 50 goals in the 31 games played, thats an average of 1.61 goals per game. Since the January window has closed, over the course of the last 5 matches a total of 3 goals have been conceded at an average of 0.6 goals per match. This has resulted in 12 points from those 5 matches at a rate of 2.4 points per match, which if it was translated to 46 games would see a total of 110 points for the season, and indeed if it were to be converted at the same rate for the remainder of the season City would finish on 71 points enough for the playoffs. :occasion5:

That is a mark of much This club has been turned around, based on a sound defence where basically we are showing promotion form now that Morrison and his team has achieved a fantastic January Transfer window and turned the club from fear of relegation to a great team to watch and enjoy the climb up the table :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:
