STEVE MORISON:

Team tired?

STEVE MORISON:

"We looked a bit leggy at Millwall, some tired legs."

The likes of Max Watters and James Collins have been unable to break into the squad over the last few games owing to the form of Jordan Hugill, Uche Ikpeazu, Isaak Davies and Mark Harris and it has added competition to the squad.

Everyone fit?

Rubin is out. That’s another tick in the box of learning for him.

He is out but it creates an opportunity for someone else.

We will take each day as it comes with him, he is still not right for today and I think he will struggle for the weekend as well.

Steve Morison

One player who will know all about injuries, of course is Isaac Vassell.

The striker has not featured for the Bluebirds since the FA Cup defeat by Luton Town on August 27, 2019, having suffered with an array of injuries to his upper leg.

Two-and-a-half years later, however, there is no sign of him getting back to playing professional football.

"He had a little bit of a setback again when he did come back into training," Morison said of Vassell.

"I don't think we will see him between now and the end of the season."

Reflections on Millwall?

I feel the same.

We need to take advantage of that 20-minute spell after half-time.

We didn’t get the rub of the green in that 20 minutes and then conceded sloppy goals.

We don’t need to worry about that now, we just need to concentrate on Coventry.

No positivity has been affected by Millwall?

Not at all.

We rested yesterday and back in today, ready for tomorrow in front of our own fans.

As long as we stay consistent in our actions we will be fine.

Back at home, bit of a change to be winning there?

We are trying to make lots of changes and there are lots more changes to be made.

We need consistency across the board with everything we do.

Two home wins in the last two, we now need to make that three.

Let’s hope to end the season with more positive home results than negative.

Fans say it feels like Cardiff again?

Yeah.

I was given a remit to help the football club and I’m trying to do that across the board, between the media, the football club media, the training ground, the training sessions, what you see on the pitch, trying to bring the fans and players together as close as possible.

If you have that community feel within a football club it goes a long way.

There are going to be games where we excel, like Forest and Peterborough.

Barnsley was horrible but we got a win. Millwall, the pitch was horrible and it was windy, it wasn’t pretty.

First half we were happy to let them have the ball. I just think if we got one of those chances or the penalty the game would have gone to plan.

Everyone can see we are going in the right direction.

Have you met fans, what are they saying?

All positive stuff is great. I understand how quick it changes as well.

I’m a consistent person and try to be as consistent as I can.

Hopefully that comes across with the players and the staff. When people say positive stuff to you in the street, let’s hope we can continue that. That can all change.

People accepted club were in relegation battle, are you convinced that isn’t the case now?

Not at all. That’s for the fans to think.

It’s great that maybe they relax a little bit and are not so tense and they enjoy it.

The more relaxed they are, the more positive.

From our point of view, we won three games back to back but by Saturday evening we could have lost three games on the bounce and could be right back in it!

What threats are Coventry posing?

Loads!

They are really fluid with what they do.

O’Hare is dangerous, Viktor up front has been really good this year.

It’s going to be a tough one and we will need everyone, from the fans to the players, to get behind us.

How are the club managing the transfer window with no real certainty?

We are just planning. I am planning with the recruitment team as if it’s me.

I’d like to think that even if it’s not me it will be someone in a similar mould to myself who has a similar idea to what football players might look like in certain positions and whatever it might look.

Hopefully it’ll be a seamless transition.

If we go away from that, then we will be back to where we were, which I am told is what we are trying to get away from.

We’ve got plans, we’ve got ideas. At some point, hopefully, we will get to push the button on the plans.

Youngsters can learn a lot from defeat?

Joel Bagan scored and that’s a real positive for him.

Players have experienced, who haven’t before, a lot of games in a short period of time.

There are positives to take out of everything.

We have to keep improving.

A lot of games quickly can be good?

It’s great! It’s what we are all here for.

It’s the next one and it’s a tough one. I’m pleased it’s at home, so we don’t have to do any travelling.

Morison was, at one stage, hopeful that Vassell would re-enter first-team training at the end of January, when the club could assess the player's condition there and then.

The 28-year-old, though, is unlikely to be seen again this season after suffering yet another setback. With his contract up at the end of the season, that is surely Vassell's Bluebirds career over, after just three games and one goal.

"He had a little bit of a setback again when he did come back into training," Morison said of Vassell.

"I don't think we will see him between now and the end of the season."

Ryan Wintle??

Manager Steve Morison has been delighted with the 24-year-old's impact.

STEVE MORISON:

"He has been excellent. He's been excellent since the first day he came back [from Blackpool]," Morison said.

"In training, you can definitely see a better player. I know we didn't get a chance to see him properly, because he went quite early on and played really well for Blackpool.
