Morison transfer discussions with Tan

Sat Feb 12, 2022 10:47 am

Constant conversations, constant dialogue especially with the players we have brought in. They go through the transfer committee and then ultimately have to be approved by Tan. Conversation could be 5 minutes or 20 minutes. Sometimes he says no and I have a bit more work to do. Then we have to wait for the other club to say yes.

They are happy with the transfer dealings in January. He backed me and I appreciate that. We were working with tight constraints but I have been told they should ease by the summer so hopefully I’ll have room to manoeuvre. Money has come in so there will be money to spend but like everyone it has to be value for money. Tan still mentions a striker he spent millions on that was for the future and another with millions spent that didn’t score. He actually brought that up when we discussed Hugill scoring after 5 minutes.

It looks a lot more comfortable now and my job is to make it as comfortable as possible as quickly as possible. The young players being relied on in a relegation battle wasn’t really doable. Now we have quality around them to help them grow.

Sure does.

However, dwelling on money spent in the past isn’t a good thing.

Ideally no talking about past money spent isn’t ideal. But as the backer it can’t help come up. Fool me once and all that. He has a point. We have signed some duffers. Moore may have left under a cloud but he at least was a success even if we didn’t get as much for him as we would have liked. He signed cheap. Scored goals and left for more than we paid.
We learn from our experience so hopefully we will
Be more discerning from now. Hugill is a good shout though if we can get him permanently

NW by his own admission purchased some duds at CF, right that VT places expectations on SM.
And hes doing more than ok with his CF.

Hopefully Morison can spot a striker.

We haven’t bought good CFs since DJ’s days
