WHO WILL STAY?

Thu Feb 10, 2022 2:59 pm

Come the end of the season, and our loan deals end, do we realistically have a chance of any staying with us?

Cody Drameh - on loan from Leeds. The lightening quick defender adding creativity and a solid defensive presence when needed

Alfie Doughty - on loan from Stoke. In the short time we saw him play before injury he showed promise on the left of midfield with pace and creativity.

Tommy Doyle - on loan from Man City. A real engine in the centre of midfield, and a real promising player for the future.

Jordan Hugill - on loan from Norwich. Was excited to be at a club who will appreciate him, and he's delivered with a couple of goals in his first few matches.

Uche Ikpeazu - on loan from Middlesborough. A proper unit of a guy, and scored in each game he's played so far.

The question is, are we likely to hold on to any of these players beyond their current loan period, and will their success be our downfall in terms of the fee's that their parent clubs will now dictate?! Can we start talks to make any of these permanent deals here and now?

Without question, they've all been welcome additions, each one of them playing their part in our recent successful results. Credit must go to Steve Morison and the recruitment team for identifying, and bringing in these players who have slotted in so seamlessly.

Would like to sign Hugill. Drameh and Doyle for another year if out of our price range.

I think the only ones we'd have a chance of keeping would be Hugill, Ikpeazu and Doughty. Even Hugill may be too expensive for us to consider.

Drameh and Doyle would be too pricey and not likely to be let go in any event.

I'd love them all to here for a full season next year but just can't see it so enjoy it while we can. At least we can actually watch this lot unlike Harry Wilson !!!!

I would really like them all to stay. Even if we re-loaned them. Borrowing for a season will mean a great deal more than borrowing them for just a few months.

Cardiff City fans want more than a cheap quick fix. Bring them all back... permanenet or loan.

Realistically if they end up saving the club this season, and we send them back with no intention of bringing them back? Well?.... together with the regime getting rid of our high earners we will be back to beyond square one and this year will seem a considerable jolly compared to next year

Still the negative Nelly on hypothetical situations I see?

Back to beyond square one? Literally makes no sense at all that.

Barclay mate. Enjoy what they’re bringing to the shoe at the moment, starting with Saturday (good on you for your loyal support btw).
Who knows how many of them will be here next year - you may be correct that none of them will but tbh nobody, including me or you expected players of this calibre to be brought in, loan or not so who knows what the club will be planning for next year. As you say, there’ll be a fair amount saved with the wages of some high earners gone come July. :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Stay or go. Shows that Morison has an eye for a player and an ability to craft a team spirit between a large influx of new guys very quickly.

And he’s spent NO MONEY

Hopefully all of them but I think Hugil Doughty, Drameh AND Doyle are the players we need to tie down deals permanently. Ideally I would love to buy all of them because with the amount of players out of contract i think we will need these loaned signings for the longer term future.

Doyle I think will be loaned/sold to a premier league club next season.

Dremah seems to be enjoying it here and playing well maybe Leeds will loan him to us for another season of regular 1st team football

The other 3, I believe many clubs will be willing to let un wanted players go on free or very cheap this summer just to free up wages. I think this summer we'll see more of the effect of lockdowns on the football league than last.

Problem is Hugill’s wages.

He’s gone for some hefty fees but it appears took a pay cut when moving to Norwich. Was on 40k at West Ham. Seems like he’s a player who wants to play rather than just take a wage.

That’s a refreshing change :bluescarf:

I mean he’s playing for us for free apparently so yeah very refreshing.

He would have to take another big wage cut to play for us permanently.

Hugill and Ikpeazu are both out of contract in the summer which I believe means we can talk to them about signing on a free from the end of April.
Both seem to like it here with Hugill in particular mentioning how we saved him from his nightmare and Ikpeazu already warming to our fans.
I'm optimistic and believe we will sign at least one of them

Not sure either are out of contract.

Would be class if they were.

Given a choice of one of them I’d go for Hugill. Would be great to have both if at all possible

It’s hard to see why hugill didn’t settle at West Brom. So far I’ve seen someone chomping at the bit to play. Working hard and showing some lovely touches. Lucky to have him and I’ve said this before …. Suits us better than moore did. Especially as we are playing tbr ball more and being less direct. He’s strong enough to do a lot of what moore did. But he’s also mobile and quick.

Hugill is the better player. But uche is a great character and clearly a 100% er.

If we can keep those guys I don’t think we can have too many concerns. Davies developing well alongside them. Be interesting to see if harris and watters can push on

According to Wikipedia Hugill is under contract at Norwich untilsummer 2023

Ikpeazu is under contract at Middlesborough until 2024. I know he only signed for Boro last summer so that sounds right

Re: WHO WILL STAY?

I doubt any of them.

If Drameh has pissed of the leeds hierarchy then he'll be up for sale and a young fast aggressive English wing back will be £5 million plus

If Citeh want to loan him out in the championship then it will have to be for a team challenging, but already there'll be a host of premier clubs wanting him.

I can see Norwich being in the championship so why would they want to sell and why would the player want to drop his salary ?

Ikpeazu looks like a Warnock buy, he isn't very good but a great impact last 15min sub.

Not sure why Stoke would let Doughty go cheaply if he regains his fitness and form, we are likely to be competitors next season.

Good reasons given why not but at the moment nobody knows. Things change very quickly in football
