Steve Morison: “ Rubin Colwill “

STEVE MORISON:

Regarding Rubin Colwill

Says what he must improve to force way into the side and reach levels everyone at the club knows he's capable of.

"I tell you what, he'll be a much better player next season, one to watch."

"Rubin Colwill is excellent in that transitional phase when we have the ball," Morison said when asked about the player.

"For him to be a top, top player, a regular starter in the Championship, he needs to be better without the ball. It's very clear”

"He knows that, we know that. Until he gets better without the ball and understands the work you need to put in to give yourself the most opportunities to be able to do what you do going the other way, then he'll still be an impact [player], like on Sunday.

"He needs to also add to his game assists and key passes.

"He has scored five goals this year, it was a great goal at the weekend, but to be a top, top player, you look at other players in the Championship who play in his type of role, they will be high up in the assist charts, high up in the goal charts and they do the other side of the game really well."

In fairness to Rubin these "other" top players are not in as crap a team as he is and they have an actual goal scorer to assist.

Not really, Bacuna hasn't played for us since 30th December 2021. There's been seven matches since then and he hasn't even been in the squad for six of them. He was suspended for just one of those games and hasn't been injured. The only reason he was on the bench at Liverpool was because several players, such as Ralls and some loanees, were unavailable. But it was never likely he was going to be brought on.

In the seven matches since Bacuna last played for us, Colwill has featured in four of them - including one start.

We have had 16 games since Steve Morison took charge and Bacuna has featured in five of them with four starts. Also in that period, Colwill has featured in 12 of those games with six starts.
