“ STEVE MORISON TODAY UPDATES CARDIFF FANS “

Tuesday 8th February 2022

STEVE MORISON:

Injury news?

"Nothing new."

CCFC INJURY UPDATE:

Joe Ralls and Curtis Nelson are both ruled out of Wednesday night's clash with Posh.

Cardiff's worst fears confirmed. Been told this morning Sean Morrison (ACL) is out for the season and Alfie Doughty (ankle ligaments) he is out for up to 6 weeks.

Isaak Vassell still long term injury.

Sean Morrison?

"It’s football unfortunately.

"Normally they are very innocuous, those kinds of things.

"He’s come in every day since and is very much part of what we are doing. He will be a positive influence.

"I told him yesterday I will and have spoken to the board so we will see what that looks like for him going forward.

"When a decision is made we will communicate that to everyone else."

Selection changes, is that because of tomorrow?

"Yeah, it always was because of that.

"I said it from the start that’s what I would do.

"The names that got named, I believe in them.

"There are some really good young players but they aren’t good enough to do it all on their own together.

"They need to be bled in, dribs and drabs.

"The best at it was Phil Foden under Guardiola. We know what’s the best for the players.

"We will manage them in the best way to make sure they are in a much better place.

"Oli Denham was excellent, perhaps man of the match, Eli King was excellent. Will they be involved tomorrow night? Probably not.

"Will they be involved if we need them? They are in a better place to be."

STEVE MORISON:

Taking the positives from the FA Cup?

"You have to take moments like that in the most positive way you can.

"It was really positive from us in all aspects.

"Some people will never get the chance to play at Anfield, some want to get to that level. They now know what the level looks like.

"The Cardiff fans were amazing so that was fantastic.

"The negatives were the goals, but we’ve moved on very quickly."

STEVE MORISON:

Big game tomorrow, feel like a chance to move away from the drop zone?

"It’s just the next game. I know that’s a cliche.

"We’ve got that and then 48 hours later we are going again.

"We have had two good wins and now we want to follow that up at home.

"Once we start winning games and getting on a run, we’ll see where it can take us."

STEVE MORISON:

Does the club need to get into habit of winning at home regularly?

"You want to make your home your fortress. It takes time.

"We are in a transitional period. Everyone knows that.

"We are in the middle of change. Change is uncertain. It can be positive it can be negative.

"We are in a building phase for the football club, with the way we’ve been going for the football club.

"If we can make home a bit more secure then that helps with the fans as well.

"I’d love to hear what they did at Anfield from start to finish at a home game, backing the players and what we’re doing.

"Obviously the result dictates that! If we’re getting battered they’re not going to be like that!"

STEVE MORISON:

After Bristol City, lessons learned from that?

"Yeah. Everything you showed them, there was clarity and alignment.

"When you sit there and go through it in black and white and everyone has accountability, it is interesting how the room opens up.

"Little individual conversations we had after. I spoke to Rallsy in a little passing drill and he said it was the little kick up the a*** he needed.

"We’ve been up and down in our results and lets hope we can kick on now until the end of the season."

STEVE MORISON:

Players have to take on the message?

"There’s loads that go into it.

"You get the initial bounce when you come in.

"Once you get the bounce, how do you then not drop off the edge of the cliff?

"It’s happened over the last few years. That 11 or 12 game bounce and then go back.

"I’d like to think we have got through that period now and are through the other side of it.

"I think the loan players coming in have helped with that. They don’t have the baggage.

"All they want to do is prove the clubs wrong they’ve come from."

STEVE MORISON:

What do you expect from Posh?

"They are going to come out swinging.

"They know they want to catch us. They had a great result against QPR in the FA Cup.

"They drew Man City in the Cup, so they are going to be fighting for their lives.

"We just need to be ready.

"We know what we are going to do."

STEVE MORISON:

Barnsley charge?

"I don’t understand why we’ve been charged! They’ve been aggressive, they instigated everything.

"How are we supposed to react? I don’t really understand.

"But the FA, I suppose, have to charge both."

STEVE MORISON:

Dogfight again tomorrow?

"No, they like to play football, play out from the back.

"They’ll enjoy coming to our place because the pitch is lovely, theirs isn’t the best at the minute.

"We need to be on our mettle.

"I’d love to hear that noise the fans brought on Sunday.

"It can push us on to the level we need to perform at.

"We need to make sure it’s not after the Lord Mayor’s show.

"The team will be different, so that will help with that. It’ll be a different and a fresher feel.

"It wasn’t a physically demanding game.

"I remember getting back after the game and I was drained. So it’s the mental aspect.

"It was a very tough drain on the players.

"So we have lowered our intake of information over the last 24 hours."

STEVE MORISON:

Audience with Klopp?

"No! We said ‘Hi’ before. Spoke on the pitch briefly, but after the game disappeared nowhere to be seen.

"Not even an offer of a drink!"

STEVE MORISON:

A lot of players playing for their futures?

"Everyone is. I don’t think there is a body who can relax.

"They are all playing for something. Whether it’s playing for a contract, to stamp your make on being here and being the main man next year.

"It might be a loanee trying to prove to their parent club.

"That’s why we’ve had the results.

"That’s why we needed that game against Bristol City, the work we did after really ironed out some mental issues within the group to understand we need to start pulling together if we are going to go where we need to go."

Fergie hairdryer at Ashton Gate?

STEVE MORISON:

"I don’t shout. I just talk.

"You don’t have to shout to get your message across. Your words should do the talking.

"I said it had to hurt them as much as it hurt me.

"They are the ones who are going to perform.

"Forest was a good performance, to a man they were excellent. Not so good at Barnsley, but team spirit and work ethic got us through that.

"I’d like us to be more consistent in our performances."
