Next season

Sun Feb 06, 2022 2:32 pm

I hope we stay up and i think we will, bit worried about the manager situation i would like to see Morison kept if we do stay up as he changing the way we play.

I'm excited about next season, we clear a ton of aging players on big contracts. He can sit down after that and write a few names down like Denham, McGuin, Colwill etc and build around them.

This season hes had to make do, next season he can build around the good we got coming through

For me Morison should be given a longer contract right now,yes he is making some mistakes but overall has done well and I believe he will get better.
Imagine he steers us to safety and someone else offers him a job at the end of the season.

We did that with Mick and look what happened. Let’s just wait and see what happens.

Great performance today, but we means nothing if we don’t beat Peterborough on Wednesday.

i would be very cautious giving Morison the job for longer.

Still unsure if the sum the parts are greater than the individuals. Drameh and especially Doyle look ready made premier league players now, Wintle is far better than Pack, and the two big lads are at least as good as Moore and Collins (as a pair)

I believe we need and out and out technical coach, shame the Gargoyle went to forest, but that type.

The Gargoyle
I agree.

You’ve probably been Morisons biggest critic on here whilst I think he’s done really well with all things considered.
Saying that, I think we should definitely wait until the end of the season before making a decision - which I believe the club will.

I am not against Morison per say, I just think the jump from U23 to championship is huge especially for a club like ours that has very little real football structure.

I am really encouraged by the recruitment team (not committee) and their signing have been very good so hope they have identified a first team coach who has that little X factor.

We are not going to out spend any one that is clear, so we need to be cleverer. Warnock had his way of playing that worked when all the young Eufa trained coaches are all do the same thing, that's what worries me. I'd rather have someone with form in the book for doing it their way.

I want Morison to have his contract extended, but don't think it should happen until the season ends.

Staying Up is what our Club are playing for this season - Then we need a good look at where we go from there :bluebird:

Exactly. Let's see if he can do the job he was brought in to do first - keep us up! If he does that and we have a decent finish to the season it would be hard to argue against giving him a contract.

Re: Next season

Mon Feb 07, 2022 9:20 am

I personally think at the moment it's showing changes of the way he wants to play... He has obtained signings to fit the style and has stuck to it. We have to see this as a transitional period which will only be good long term. I'd assess in summer but assuming we're up I'd stick with him as long as he has tools to invest etc

Re: Next season

Mon Feb 07, 2022 9:22 am

I would give morison a contract now. Its obvious what he is doing and next season can only be better as he brings players in to work with his style of play.

I was genuinely worried when I saw the line up yesterday but great confidence shown from morison in using the youg lads. Denham wow

Re: Next season

Mon Feb 07, 2022 9:35 am

I'd give Morison a contract as soon as we are safe (hopefully well before the end of the season).

He can then use that time to start planning the strategy for the summer and lining up loans, etc.

Contracts on a 'rolling one-year basis' is the way forward for the club under current circumstances no matter who is in charge; with an 'agreed' compensation package should it not work out

The club simply cannot afford to keep paying out £multi-million packages for failure, as we have in recent times; and I include some players for that

It's hard to say how the club will move forward but the coming 'Summer re-set' will be an interesting one for us on and off the pitch

Steve Morison is (at least) showing signs of developing nicely but now is not the time to be looking too far forward with so many unanswered (legal and footballing) questions remaining in this current season

Will make it very hard to retain and persuade new players if the manager situation is uncertain. The job Morison has done is under rated IMO, definitely deserves a new contract.

I would suggest the managerial situation will be sorted as soon as the season ends, if not slightly before, so by the time new players are sought, next season's manager will be known (if it isn't already)

Few 'out of contract' players will see theirs current ones renewed but I sincerely hope the one or two recognised as being 'worthy' are spoken to sooner rather than later; but then again, how would that be interpretted by the others, who we still need for this season?

It's a toughie... :(

Re: Next season

This obsession with signing managers and players up has cost us in the past. Mick McCarthy is one, Tomlin is another. If he does a great job and goes so be it. There are other managers around. Let’s wait till the end of the season. None of the players are going anywhere and let’s be frank I cannot see anyone chasing Morrison the player or Manager anytime soon.

This is a multi million pound industry and up until three months ago we basically used the same structure as we have for the last 120 years.

The football manager used to be the general manager. I remember reading that Cloughie (the greatest ever) used to order the pies and negotiate service contract with their suppliers, that was only taken from him in the 80's.

Managers have caused our boom and bust. We should never employ a manager again.

Tan should find someone he trusts to run the football side of the business as that is our core competence and purpose for being. He (the DoF) should recruit the first team head coach and head of the academy, the u23 should be an extension of that.
The head coach should recruit his team of coaches.

The recruitment team should be looking at players from all over with their network of scouts and analytics. The Dof and the finance guy should be the only ones buying or selling players.

This is one of my main hobby horse. Before we look at Steve Morison, Tan needs to work out what we are doing and if Dalman and Choo are doing anything remotely worthwhile. I don't think they are. You will always need a finance guy, whether that is a full time position i don't know. But, A DoF is paramount.

Another point, the manager in the strongest position in football is probably Klopp and he doesn't buy or even identify players. He has final say but doesn't get involved in deal making. Then look at our history and wonder why we are in this position again.

That, Dave, is another class post amongst many from you and I completely agree

So long as the (shall we now call him) 'First Team Coach' has some input on the personnel (or type of) he wants, I think it should be the way forward :bluebird:

I would love the DoF to be Craig Bellamy. We need someone with vision and a plan. The prospective first team coach interviewee's would have to convince Craig he has the same vision and passion. He could still lace up his boots with the academy if he wants

I think we'll be ok.

This January we said no money but we still brought players in (whether it was on the Moore money we don't know for sure)

The money we save on some of the wages of the out of contract players could go on frees and loans again

We'll have bodies in but it's a case of will they be good enough to push us up the table

I agree. Probably not a high push up the table. But I'll be happy treading water for a bit whilst plenty of clubs implode around us! Play the sensible long game.

I'm a long-standing advocate of Crig being involved with the Bluebirds as coach/manager but I could see why DoF would be a very good option

Sadly, one of the issues to be overcome is larger than most will appreciate and that lies right at the very top. Craig has principles and will stand by them until certain changes are made or situations remedied
