Barnsley Boss Gives His Version of what happened last night

Thu Feb 03, 2022 11:18 am

Now, Barnsley have given their version of events.

While admitting that the reaction of his assistant, Laumann, was wrong, Asbaghi claimed that Cardiff could have been more magnanimous in victory.

"I knew when I came to England that you have to be ready for the verbal communication from opponents which is different to what I am used to," he said.

"They argue and complain and scream. I like that, I find it charming and fun. It puts intensity into the game. But it has to stop after the final whistle.

"If you are the coach of Cardiff and you just won a game like that, you should come and say thank you. We went to him to say congratulations and he said really bad things. Then my assistant coach reacts to what he said which is wrong.

"Congratulations to Cardiff but they didn't win with style today. Please show a bit of sportsmanship, the way they behaved was ridiculous."

It is not the first time the Barnsley coaching staff have found themselves in hot water this season, though.

Laumann was individually fined £2,500 for his part in a post-match set-to against Stoke City back in October after receiving a red card from referee Leigh Doughty.

Thank you for injuring two of our key players, thank you for hiding our towels. Sportsmanship went out the window long before the final whistle, dry your eyes

I laughed when Vaulks ie went to take a long throw and the ball boy was hiding the towel. The ref came over to tell the ball boy to let him have the towel. The kid still didn't want to give the towel up so Vaulksie snatched it off him. Then the 4th official went down and told the kid off. And the Barnsley manager got the cheek to criticise Steve Morison. Do me a favour-go back to wherever you came from.

I'm glad he didn't mention the "offside goal" because it was offside. I did my own VAR check, when the ball was played 4 Barnsley players were offside .

That's where the 'offside' argument ends, Neil. A quick look at the Laws of football will confirm...

Oh, hang on! Did I say a 'quick check' before commenting?

Silly me...! ;) :laughing6:

Reminded me of a certain 'Jack' Director's boy doing similar not so long ago...

A deflection doesn't count. It would have had to be "deliberately played" by the defender for that to come into it.

In respects to the offside, the linesman had no chance of differentiating between the six Barnsley players behind our defence.

Unfortunately for one of them the other 5 were too lazy to get out quicker. The one onside was the one who scored.

There were a few offside. I think the player who scored was onside though.

Regardless, the player who was passed to and picked up the ball was well onside when the ball was played. It was onside.
