MY VIEW / OPINION:

A DIRE GAME / SCRAPPY / BUT CARDIFF CAME AWAY WITH THE VITAL 3PTS THANKS TO A DEBUT GOAL BY IKPEAZU :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Awful game, Barnsley actually the better side, but 3pts is 3pts and 2 wins in a row for Cardiff :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff have now made a 9pt gap from the 3rd from bottom Peterborough :thumbright: :bluebird:

Cardiff were tonight playing rock bottom Barnsley who have looked down and out the last few months and not won for 11 games.

Barnsley were only the fourth second tier team this century to stand at less than 15 points after 27 games .
Also they had failed to score in four of their last five home fixture, plus tonight Barnsley had a lot of injuries .

I felt striker Max Watters was out of his depth.

FIRST-HALF: 10th min: Capt Morrison came off. Looked like a nasty ankle injury. End to end with both clubs making chances, but shocked as Barnsley played at least as good as Cardiff if not better

Barnsley had 2 new loanies 28 Quina and 17 Gomes . Both look comfortable on the ball and are young and combative.

SECOND-HALF: 71st min the game came alive , Ikpeazu through two defenders off him before rolling past Collins! 0-1  :bluebird: :bluebird:
Barnsley had a goal disallowed in the 95th min.

BARNSLEY 0 CARDIFF CITY 1 :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff City : Smithies; Ng, Morrison, McGuinness; Drameh, Vaulks, Wintle, Doughty; Doyle; Hugill, Watters. :bluebird: :bluebird:

Subs: Phillips, Flint, Bagan, Pack, Davies, Collins, Ikpeazu.

A pretty poor half by Cardiff

Max Watters had been awful.

63rd min: Doughty off, Ikpeazu on.

66th min: Tommy Doyle in the book - bad challenge from him.

GOAL! IKPEAZU!

Flint hammers a ball up the pitch and Ikpeazu through two defenders off him before rolling past Collins!

Tremendous from the big man on debut!

Awful performance but a great 3 points but that's the 1st time under morrison we looked like a mccarthy team
Will vaulks slows the game down terribly he is not a midfielder/ forward i crunge everytime i see him on the pitch sorry but we always play sh.t when he' s in the team.

Poor game and display but these games are all about the points.

I must admit I thought the “goal” in injury was off side but got a bit worried because I thought the ref hadn’t given it !

Got to rest a few of those players on Sunday now though. A few of them haven’t had much football lately and looked really tired at the end and Peterborough is a huge game that we just can’t lose.

A very ugly win, but a massive one as well.

A win against Peterborough next week will give us valuable breathing space.

Brilliant strength shown by Ikpeazu for the winner.

That was some goal from Ikpeazu, he looks like an absolute beast compared to the size of some .

I can’t be the only one that thought the worst when Barnsley scored, think we dodged a bullet there.

More pleased about the clean sheet, especially after Morrison departing early. NG for the second game running really impressed. Take a bow Ikpeazu, great determination for the goal, give me him over that diva Moore anytime.

Barnsley know their season has gone and just seemed to want to kick our players.

Well done Morison, the ugly wins are the ones that feel the best.

Agree with you about Watters he is struggling to make an impact as a starter but this was only his 2nd game in the Championship as a starter. But tonight was about winning and we have done that so onwards and upwards. Peterborough, Coventry, Blackpool and Derby at home are ALL HUGE games for us now.

For me we won't need 50 points this season to be safe low 40's will do it.

Out of Ian’s relegation zone as well as the actual one now.

Mid table here we come.

Impressive how the players stuck up for their manager at the end.

Performance poor but scrappy win is still three points.

3 points v Peterborough and we are really looking up not down.

An awful performance from us but three points is all that matters in this situation. We were unrecognisable from the game on Sunday and we need to ssort the defensive formation on a game to game basis depending upon the opposition as five doesn't work per se. We looked far better as a four tonight but a five on Sunday. It may be taken out of our hands after a series of poor challenges left half of our defence on the treatment table - might be a problem for Peterborough which is probably now the biggest game of our season so far.

A win is a win

Sometimes you just need to chuck it into the mixer and see what happens, it just shouldn't be your only tactic.

No idea what we were trying to do, Watters doesn't seem to know how a two works, Vaulks is Vaulks at least he is ahead of Pack and Bacuna (remember him)

Don't care sometimes its a fight and we won

Crucial 3 points.

Awful performance though. We play like that against any other team in the league and we lose by 3 or 4.

* Poor performance
* thrilled with 3 points
* Ikpeazu made a big difference
* concerned about Injuries
* Not out of the woods yet
* Barnsley goal well onside..( We're due a little luck)

One shot on target
Nothing creative from our midfield
Couldn’t control the ball
Constantly headed and cleared the ball straight to Barnsley
No real pace
Vaulks is a passenger and should never be picked regardless of injuries
Barnsley should have won by 2 and their goal wasn’t offside

BUT
We scored and they didn’t :ayatollah:
WBA scored an offside goal which stood so these things come around and we won so I’ll live with the terrible performance but surely we can’t play as badly as that again can we?
But great team spirit and commitment :bluebird:
So well done City overall :bluescarf:

I personally love the feeling after winning a game like that. And it shows that this team are now willing to fight for the win. The performance was awful but I think everyone knew it was going to be one of those games. We really missed Ralls tonight I thought.

Probably Our best two out of the 10 that got put in the First team squad this season:

But are we seriously saying Colwill and Davies, who can beat players and create, aren’t good enough to get into this Cardiff team?

And I can’t see any better at all coming through for next season.

I also have been told more than 10 players will be leaving this Summer a few of the 10, plus the all the loan players.

It’s going to be one of our busiest summers in our history in the transfer market and with virtually hardly any money at Steve Morison’s disposal or who ever our manager is, they will certainly have to work beyond.

Two games and two victories gives the squad a hell of a boost. Both games have positives- one for knowing they can play well and only for knowing they can play not so well, but still keep a clean sheet and win ugly.
Weve effectively got a free game on Sunday - no pressure, a chance for team bonding, confidence building and working together on the pitch, before the next big league game next week.

Really :o looked a mile off at the time and in all the still photos I've seen.

Even the Barnsley manager didn't mention it afterwards.

What makes you think it was onside ?
