New Team Assesment : First let me say that we

New Team Assesment : First let me say that we will not be relegated this season - forget it ! :thumbright: :bluebird:

Secondly I want to say that I am excited about our totally new look team which Steve Morison has assembled with NO MONEY - in fact with negative money (because we sold our ,arguably , our most valuable player).

I am excited because we have a lot of question marks on a lot of our very new look team with a totally new approach to the way we play. So we do not know yet ….but personally I feel positive ….fingers crossed. :bluebird: :bluebird:

If I am not wrong - I believe that the following new players will feature regularly in the heart of our team : Drameh , Doughty , Wintle , Ikpeazu and Hugil (with Collins who is also newly introduced challenging for a place). SIX totally new players introduced to a totally new team ….five on loan with Wintle as good as new.

I trust Smithies in goal . # I believe that our new defensive structure will be the trio Morrison , McGuinness and NG - have more pace and better ball control than what we had previously…… and two of them can play football. I am excited to see how this defensive setup will pan out.

Our two wingbacks are two young kids who have hardly played many games and are not yet tried ….but they come with good pedigree. They can definately play and run all day ….but they still have to prove that they can cut the mustard. Did our manager pick well ?

Exciting ! A 100% new wingback look. :bluebird: Our midfield looks like Doyle , Wintle and Ralls . I believe that the young unproven Doyle will do the business . :bluebird:

I believe that Eintle will work hard and come up trumps. Ralls is consistent and hard working and can hold his position well and will not let us down ….. but zI believe that both he and our worthy captain Morrison will have to be bettered (eventually). I am excited about our new look midfield. :thumbright: :bluebird:

Up front we have a totally new formation …. as it looks likely that we will play 2 up . They are also new ….. Hugil and Ikpeazu with Collins challenging. There are others of course who can fill in . The common thing is that they will all work work and work for 90 minutes. :bluebird: :bluebird:

CONCLUSION :

I AM EXCITED !! New look team with a new style of play !! :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

We can not possibly predict if Steve Morison has pulled a rabbit out of the hat … or … hmmm….messed up …… but personally I believe the former.

Yep, me too.

I'd rather the Barnsley and Peterborough games were a couple of weeks later to allow the team to bed in but, hopefully, we can start to string some decent results together, take the pressure off and then really see what we're capable of.

In many ways I wish we didn't have the Liverpool game. It will be a distraction, could damage confidence (if we get a hammering) and take it's toll physically. It will be interesting who Morison risks for that one.

I am quite pleased the way things have paned out .

Re: New Team Assesment : First let me say that

Great assessment.

Morison has show he’s adapt and has an eye for a player so I’m not concerned at this stage about his ability to find players in the summer.

We have a lot of players out of contract yes. But if we break it down we do have a solid basis for a side IF we renew contracts for
Smithies, Morrison, Ralls.

Smithies is the best keeper at the club. And arguably the best for some time.

Morrison is getting on a bit but let’s not forget his experience and command. He’s a leader. With mcguiness he can really help him develop in to the commanding defender I think he Could be. If ng is playing centre back too Morrison would do the same job for him. A prime example of that inexperience was the goal on Sunday.

Lots of loans but presently ng mcguiness and Morrison are ours

Wing backs - yes. Not ours. But one has already demonstrated a willingness to go against his managers instructions to come to us. He may come back.

Midfield

Well ralls and wintle are a very solid base to build from. And also ours. If we re sign ralls

This leaves us with a good foundation to build from.

We need this time to develop guys like watters who looks handy to me. Davies, colwill etc

If they can grow from the experience this year then that will help us a lot too.

Good assessment Annis. I feel the same way, far better than a few weeks ago. the next few games are very winnable and we will hopefully put some more daylight between us and the drop zone. The most important thing now is to avoid the drop and see where we are in the summer with regard to new players. Same as you, I think we will survive, but tomorrows game will tell us a bit more about this crop of players. The only way is up. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: New Team Assesment : First let me say that

Tue Feb 01, 2022 12:55 pm

Agree with the assessment and more importantly it's a team that is so much more exciting to watch, we are worlds away from the teams Mick selected with 5cbs and 3 dm's every game.
I like Morison, I think he has done well so far and that results will improve. It's got me looking forward to watching the games again and for the first time in my life under Mick I was really not enjoying being there watching us, regardless of the result it was just torture.

Re: New Team Assesment : First let me say that

Let me also say a big congratulations to Steve Morison for this transfer window.

He is attracting some excellent players despite us not having much wriggle room re: finances, and our precarious league position.

If he stays past the summer, which I imagine will be conditional on us staying up (which I think we now will), then I am excited about the kinds of players he is trying to bring into the club... hungry players with a point to prove with technical ability and some pace.... halleluiah... AT LAST... no longer slow and experienced expensive players... but fighters who can also play.

I don't mind the loans for now but he MUST be allowed to bring in similar players permanently in the summer - perhaps a mixture of loans, frees and permanent signings.

Two important points to note that I don't think we should forget...

1) If we stay up then this period of time will be seen as a transitional period where we finally shrugged off the hoofball which has haunted and constrained us for years - this was necessary anyway but managers were too scared as they knew that results would take a hit - Morison's hand may have been forced due to our precarious financial situation, but this painful period will be worthwhile in the long run.

2) Morison, and in fact the facilities and coaching set-up at city, seem to be very well respected and liked by teams whom we need to build relationships with in terms of players. Man City 'trusting' us with one of their prime young assets is a credit to Morison and the club. This bodes well for the future in terms of loans and transfers. We can't rely on our 'buying' power so we have to demonstrate other qualities to attract players and develop them here.

Those two things means that finally we can move forwards and start to see some better football at city, more realistic transfers and being able to bring our youngsters through in a better environment where they can flourish.

We are not out of the woods - we have a lot of hard work to do to remain in the championship and have some key court cases coming up (I don't know what will happen with the Sala case but agree with Annis that we will win the Isaacs case).

However, feeling a bit more positive than I did a few weeks back.

Great read that and honest with no negativity.

I think Watters is ahead of Collins in the pecking order.

Issac davies before collins we don' t want to forget our own
and he has done nothing wrong and gets better every game

Had this side been assembled at the start of the season then we would be turning the table upside down :ayatollah:

Best ever January window by a mile. The team was going nowhere and needed a big kick up the backside.

Have to admit I was having my doubts about Morison but he has gone right back up in my estimation. Optimistic about the rest of the season.

That’s how I feel.

But the Hierarchy felt that they should take control again and put 10 U23’s straight in to the first team squad, zero investment and one loan player.

I said in July and August that’s a relegation squad, the usual critics slaughtered me saying I was wrong and the youth is the way forward, YES it is if they are good enough.

Not 10, should of been 3 max.

Morison's first transfer window.10 out of 10.Tan needs to back him.

Forest was really the first game this season where I have had hope. There's no getting away from what was a decent performance.

The team assessment is fair, although I am not convinced by Wintle yet and we have no real depth in Midfield or up front.

For me, it is really Important that this team kept together for next season, if not, were really are going back to square one.

I think an awful lot more will be k own about the teams desire and ability after the next two games. Six points and I will be as comfortable as I have been this season that the drop might be avoided.

Back up players in midfield
Pack, Vaulks, Bacuna (I know)

Back up players in attack
Watters, Collins, Davies, Colwill.

Good summary Annis and it reflects on how many of us feel. As maccy said earlier, I'd also pick Watters over Collins but otherwise spot on.

We've got to get behind Morison too as he warned the players that if they didn't step up, he'd have to get we ones and he's done just that and in some style in record time. He's also stood up to the board as he said he needed more players in as the U23 influx by the board as a quick fix hadn't worked. So he's not just a yes man and has had to operate in difficult conditions, inheriting a weak squad (now over 50% rebuilt), no money and in a relegation fight. I doff my hat to him.

I hope it doesn't bite me in the arse but I really believe that our season actually started last Sunday.

This is spot on. Great window great business done by the board and the manager. This is what Cardiff is about togetherness and support from top to bottom.

Very good assessment and yes things do now look a lot better but I'm not getting carried away yet.

The Forest fans up here are saying it was a bad day at the office for them. Well I'm not sure of that because they had it in them to break us down but we stood firm then took our chances better than them. That's not having a bad day that's football. I'm hoping we can stand firm these next 2 league games, come away with the points then start climbing the table until we are away from the bottom.

I believe we can do that now.

Great post and you’re right it is only one game.

Credit to Morison and the board for identifying, bringing in and sorting out the financial side of things to keep within out budget and business plan.

I feel more confident going in t games, not just by that good performance on Sunday, but by a bit more experience has been put in to the squad.
We were looking like we had virtually given up and to many players just not good enough for the Championship.

I am feeling positive.

Thanks Paul,

As I said the squad had lost confidence and was lacking experience.

Morison has done a good job with NO money to work with at all.

I do feel we will climb the table .

Let’s stay up this season, then Steve Morison will deserve to be given another season.
