:bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird: STEVE MORISON UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS :bluescarf: :bluebird: :ayatollah:

Tuesday 1 February 2022:

STEVE MORISON:

Happy with the make-up of squad now?

We are in a much better place now. We have players to back players up.

We have experience, youth, pace, a bit of everything now.

Looking off the back of the game on Sunday, it’s only one good result, but everyone can see where we are going with this team now.

Morison

Do Wigan get a sell-on fee for Moore, apparently its 20%?

I don’t know, I presume so, but it’s not a question I’ve asked.

Morison

Sam Surridge fell through, did stuff quickly?

STEVE MORISON:

It was all right.

Michelle, Scott and Gav in the office who had to do the paperwork - that was the most stressful bit!

It’s amazing how quickly people think you make an enquiry and then it’s a done deal.

People like to talk and push this stuff through to people.

People know that when I tell them something it’s about to happen.

We got the ones we wanted.

We weren’t doing anything permanently. We asked about Surridge, we asked about a loan but they wanted a permanent.

We were relaxed.

Morison

Ikpeazu?

STEVE MORISON:

He will bring everything you saw from him at the end of last season. For me, it’s a fantastic signing.

When Sean Morrison texts you at 11pm to say ‘Make sure he is on my team for everything!’ you know you’d rather have him with than against you.

We spoke to Boro at the start of the window but that wasn’t feasible because they wanted a permanent and that didn’t materialise.

We had it on the backburner and we were looking into it and once Kieffer forced that through it made sense.

He had offers elsewhere and he picked us. It’s great.

There’s another person in the building with a point to prove

Morison

Loan outgoings?

It benefits everyone.

Ciaron Brown wants to play football and he is out of contract at the end of the season.

Kieron Evans wants to go and play men’s football. We don’t want him hanging around because he is quite far down the pecking order at the minute.

Going to a really good team in Northern Ireland too.

Keenan Patten at Hereford, we need to see what he can do.

Tom Sang, bit of a difference of opinion there, he sees himself as a right wing-back and I see him as a midfielder. I didn’t see him as a right wing-back and he does, he went to St Johnstone to play there I think.

But I think of him as a central midfielder. It’s something I have to address in the summer.

STEVE MORISON:

Kieffer Moore, transfer request, suit all parties?

Yeah I think so.

I think you can see his performances since the summer have not been where they were last season.

We still didn’t want to sell him. We wanted him to turn his form around and be a part of what we're doing.

He had a contract next year and an option on him, so had him for a good bit of time.

But he really wanted the move, effectively forced the move in the end with the transfer request. There’s no point keeping people who don’t want to be here.

We need people who want to be here and want to fight and keep pushing us on. It suited everyone in the end.

STEVE MORISON:

Disappointed about Kieffer leaving?

No, not at all.

It’s not a surprise from our point of view, we showed him we didn’t want him to go but it’s something he wanted to do.

You’d rather have a group of players here all fighting for the same thing, rather than a group of people who are disjointed because of people who don’t want to be here.

I think we are in a much better place now than 24 hours ago.

STEVE MORISON:

Forest gives you confidence?

It gives the lads the confidence. They are the ones who need the confidence and need that belief.

It gives everyone a lift. We need to make sure we continue on that upward curve now.

It’s one game, it’s done now and we are fully concentrated on Barnsley

STEVE MORISON:

Did failed Premier League move affect him?

100 percent. 100 percent. Human nature takes over.

You think you’re at it, you think you’re doing what you did last year. It was a tough run of games in terms of results, so everything plays its part.

That uncertainty… everyone likes certainty and likes clarity in life. That uncertainty certainly affected his performances.

From his point of view, he’s got what he wanted, Bournemouth have got what they wanted and we got what we asked for.

We managed to get really good options in, so we’re not just reliant on one player, we’ve got all forwards who can come to the party.

STEVE MORISON:

When did you learn properly Kieffer was trying to force his way out?

After the game on Sunday. I actually left and had to come back to the stadium because there was movement.

We were still ‘No’, then obviously it got to yesterday and the final nail in the coffin was the transfer request.

We needed to make a decision and we were always ready and waiting if something happened.

Before the transfer request had even gone in it was reported in the press that the deal was already done. So we were getting forced from all angles.

I think the club made the best decision in the end.

Uche available to play?

Yeah, I am sure he is. That’s what happens when you do them more than 24 hours before the game. But I’d better check after this!

Injuries?

We are as we were. Curtis Nelson is still out, but we are all good thankfully.

Nelson has a calf injury. He shouldn’t be too far away. Just the games come thick and fast, so he should be back out there soon.

Isaak Vassel still out.

'Difference of opinion' before Tom Sang's exit

Tom Sang and Steve Morison had a difference of opinion over the player's position ahead of him sealing a loan move to St Johnstone.

Sang has largely operated as a right wing-back during his time at Cardiff, a position which Mick McCarthy thought played to his strengths.

However Morison, as well as a large section of Cardiff supporters, thought he could offer something in midfield, given the ability he has showcased with the ball at his feet.

It was unknown whether St Johnstone had signed him as a midfielder or a wing-back, but Morison has made it clear the player is heading to Scotland to play as a defender.

The manager says it is something they will have to thrash out in the summer and decide where we go from there with Sang.

STEVE MORISON:

"Tom Sang, [there is a] bit of a difference of opinion there, he sees himself as a right wing-back and I see him as a midfielder," he said. "I didn’t see him getting that opportunity at right wing-back (here).

"He really wanted to go and play right wing-back, so he has gone to St Johnstone to play right wing-back.

Why Sam Surridge move broke down

Steve Morison has revealed why Cardiff's loan move for Sam Surridge fell through.

Cardiff were enquiring about strikers as Kieffer Moore headed down to Bournemouth, with Nahki Wells at Bristol City and Surridge at Stoke City on the radar.

The Robins rejected Cardiff's advances, insisting on a permanent deal if the striker departed.

However, Surridge looked like a viable option until Nottingham Forest came in at the 11th hour to sign the player on a permanent deal worth about £2m.

And Morison explained the circumstances surrounding Surridge ahead of the signing of Uche Ikpeazu.

STEVE MORISON:

"We made enquiries for a lot of people in different positions," the manager added.

"It’s amazing how quickly people think you make an enquiry and then it’s a done deal. A heck of a lot goes on after that.

"People like to talk and push this stuff through to people.

"People who know me know that when I tell them something it’s about to happen.

"There were lots of names linked but we got the ones we wanted.

"We weren’t doing anything permanently. We asked about Surridge, we asked about a loan but they wanted a permanent.

"That was that done and we moved on. We were relaxed. I was still in bed by 10pm so I was happy!"
