UPDATED:

STEVE MORISON:

"Wolves are not letting Ryan Giles return to Cardiff, So yet again we move on from here and look elsewhere."

How many players do you want in by Monday?

Two,i need two more players

Steve Morison

Boro confirmed about Uche?

Steve Morison:

Yeah he is a player who did well against us previously.

We have looked at loads of options, we need help.

It’s not something we are going to be able to do. They want a permanent deal and we are not in that market, we cant buy, only loan at this moment,

STEVE MORISON:

Will their be any players leaving on Monday?

"We won’t get to Monday night. I’m not getting to Monday night, decisions need to be made as soon as possible."

Morison

Kieffer Moore?

"We cant afford to be without Kieffer in this relegation battle, I cant do without him."

Kieffer Moore fit?

Hmmmmmm?

He is not fit to play.

Morison

His future?

As far as I know he will be here next week. He is not fit or ready to start a game of football.

He came back into training last week and has fully trained now for over a week.

He had to have an injection in his ankle over the weekend.

He has to tick boxes before he can come back into full training.

Morison

Giles coming back?

No new news. Still waiting on Wolves.

I’ve been confident on that for 28 days and we are still waiting on Wolves to make the decision.

I want the player back. But I’m also prepared to go elsewhere if it goes too late in the day.

Morison

Rubin Colwill played u23s Tuesday?

Yeah he has missed a few, hasn’t played in a long time, we needed to make sure he is ready if we need him to start - that’s why I gave him some minutes.

Morison

UPDATED:

Cardiff's pursuit of Uche Ikpeazu is off

“They only wanted to sell him or if a loan we pay all his wages, so we move on.”

Steve Morison contracted Chris Wilder yesterday and was told yes he is available due to their new sign.

Morison was told Boro want around £500,000.

Morison asked if we could do a deal on having on loan and wages arrangements.

Wilder said he is for sale, no offer was put in from Cardiff.

Meanwhile Millwall and Hull have since shown interest.

Updated:

Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder has confirmed that Ikpeazu is available to leave this to leave permanently for a small fee, Wilder has confirmed to Cardiff he’s available for around £500.000.

Boro Striker

Cardiff have today contacted Boro over Uche Ikpeazu.

Boro preference is to sell (for ~ £500- £750k), which is a big stumbling block.

As Cardiff say they can only loan him.

Steve Morison wants him and has asked City board for backing, he is experienced and Morison is a big fan of him.

STEVE MORISON:

Interesting experience in the transfer window?

It could be a lot better. For me, it’s quite simple, if a player can come, fine, if he can’t let’s move on to the next one.

There’s a lot of umming and ahhing.

Our board has been unbelievable.

Vincent has been unbelievable, he’s done everything I’ve asked. They’re backing it hugely. Other people are slowing it down.

STEVE MORISON:

Fans don’t realise managers are powerless in terms of owners, players agents etc

We can only do so much. We work with owners, board, recruiters.

Ultimately, agents are a big part of it. You get some really good agents and then you get some who are not in it for the player, they are in it for themselves.

We know how it works, you try not to get frustrated with it.

There are a lot of factors with it. I wish it was like Championship Manager!

Have you been hindered with just loans?

We haven’t really. Just that lad from Middlesbrough.

Most of it is you’re just waiting on other people all the time. Everyone knows who we want, the clubs know, it’s just people making decisions.

You can have something agreed and then something changes. We got the other two done because the teams committed early.

It’s just a waiting game. I’m very confident we will get stuff done.

STEVE MORISON:

Three centre-halves?

Ultimately I think it’s a formation which fits best for our three centre-halves.

It’s amazing we get asked about it. 90% of the teams in the Championship play with three centre-halves, but apparently it’s not good enough for us.

We don’t have any genuine wide players in our team. So playing with a team that hasn’t got wide players would mean putting square pegs in round holes.

It’s just a case of trying to get the most attacking team on the pitch without leaving us highly exposed in other areas.

That’d be the best answer and I could give you to be honest.

STEVE MORISON:

It’s about defending all over the pitch?

It’s a complete team effort.

I laugh when people call it a five at the back. If you’d watched any of the games and paid any attention and had any clue what you’re looking at, when we have the ball I’m pretty sure our wing backs are on their back line, so we are playing 3-2-5.

I don’t know where that nonsense comes from but it’s just something to chuck at us.

If you look at our goals on Saturday, two of our goals we didn’t have two of our centre-halves at the back!

It’s a team collective and we have focused on that a lot this week. Everything we have to do we have to be a lot more connected.

STEVE MORISON:

Scared about the table?

No, not at all, it doesn’t feel like that.

We’ve been very honest and open with the group. We know what we have to do.

The next one is Nottingham Forest and then off the back of that we have a huge run of games for five weeks.

There’s lots of tough games in there, lots of winnable games. We have to keep believing and keep fighting.

There are loads of games in a short space of time.

We will have a good grasp on where we are then.

I look at every single player all the time.

I don’t know why you’re trying to manufacture something. I pick the team I think is going to be best on Sunday.

Will that include Sean Morrison on Sunday? It's up for debate like every week.

Neil Warnock has been linked with a shock managerial return to Cardiff City.

Neil Warnock previously saved Cardiff from relegation and got the club promotion to the Premier League.

The veteran manager, 73, has been out of work since he left Middlesbrough at the start of November, but has refused to rule out a return to the dugout.

And now, The Sun report that the Bluebirds, along with Severnside rivals Bristol City, are entertaining the possibility of appointing Warnock.

Cardiff are desperate to stay in the Championship and owner Tan, believes Warnock can once again save the Welsh club.

Cardiff sit 20th in the Championship table and have to start moving quickly if they are to get themselves away from the drop zone in the coming weeks.

A drop into League One is almost unthinkable for Cardiff, whose financial position is precarious at best with lawsuits hanging over their heads and Vincent Tan's leisure empire having taken a massive hit during the pandemic.

Steve Morison, whose short-term deal runs until the end of the season, brought an immediate lift when he was appointed manager, but Cardiff are now winless in their last six Championship matches and are currently being saved from a bottom-three spot only by virtue of Reading and Derby County's points deductions.

Read more: All the latest Cardiff City news, views, features and interviews

The report adds that Tan "looks set to make a change" in the dugout if the Bluebirds' league standing does not improve.

Warnock, of course, enjoyed a success-laden three years in charge in the Welsh capital, steering the club to Premier League promotion in the 2017/18 season. He left the club in November 2019.

Cardiff's cross-border rivals Bristol City are also linked with a move for Warnock. Nigel Pearson has been in the job only 11 months and has more than two years left on his current deal.

The Robins are 16th in the table and have won only two games in their last seven, one of which was the Severnside derby last weekend.

The report comes after fellow veteran boss Roy Hodgson landed a job at 74, taking over the reins at Watford this week.

Re: STEVE MORISON:

UPDATED:

Boro confirmed about Uche?

Steve Morison:

Yeah he is a player who did well against us previously.

We have looked at loads of options, we need help.

It’s not something we are going to be able to do. They want a permanent deal and we are not in that market, we cant buy, only loan at this moment,

Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder has confirmed Cardiff City are interested in signing Uche Ikpeazu on loan.

"We are looking at around offers of £500,000 for striker Uche Ikpeazu, Cardiff I understand want him on loan and an agreement on his wages, it will be put to my board."

"Millwall, West Brom and Hull have also shown interest."

Friday 28th January 2022

This Forum reported this week that Cardiff had made contact with Boro on Wednesday morning regarding taking the out-of-favour striker on loan until the end of the season.

The Bluebirds are keen to add to their forward ranks before the closing of the transfer window on Monday and the 26-year-old is a player they are particularly interest in.

Cardiff were keen on Ikpeazu last summer, too, but eventually opted to sign free agent James Collins following the end of his contract at Luton Town.

But Cardiff may well get their man this time around. The Bluebirds are understood to be keen on signing the player on a temporary basis, while Boro are keen to offload him permanently and would prefer a sale.

We understand, though, a deal will only be struck with Cardiff if Boro allow him to leave on loan. Millwall, West Brom and Hull City are the other clubs thought to be interested.

He's been fit for weeks imo, just not risking injury

Think he’s missed the point completely with the “3-5-2” comment

Confident this squad is good enough to do the business and stay out of bottom three?

Yeah, we are out of the bottom three. We will continue to push and work hard.

We are not far away at all.

From a statistical point of view, we beat them in all areas, but it was just individual errors and conceded goals.

Yeah, he did well for MK Dons and scored goals.

His first appearance for us he scored as well. He brings goals.

Max Watters, something to think about?

He’s been excellent since he came in.

The big issue for him at the minute was match minutes. He has got to build up his level of minutes.

The Championship is more physically demanding than League One.

He is training hard, working hard, he looks good in training.
