Ryan Giggs, the verdict

Wales have gone more than a year without their manager, but his future should be determined one way or the other early in the new year.

Giggs' court case is due to go ahead in Manchester on January 24 and his FA of Wales bosses will be monitoring events closer than most.

Giggs has pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting his former partner Katie Greville and using controlling behaviour during their relationship and also denied attacking her younger sister Emma.

The Manchester United icon has been on leave from his Wales job since November 2020 and if the case goes against him it is hard to see him walking back into the post he stood aside from while the legal proceedings took place.

However, there remains a will from some highly placed and thus influential FAW figures for Giggs to return. So if he is found not guilty they will push hard for Giggs to come straight back, with Rob Page returning to his former role as number two.

In Giggs' absence, Page led Wales at the Euro finals and achieved the results which have seen the team reach the World Cup play-offs.

Who leads the side if Wales get to the finals in Qatar?
