Bristol City Report Pre Tax Loss of £38.4 million

I thought the maximum was 39 million in a 3 year period or has that now changed. With the 10.1 million they lost the previous year they must be seriously close to breaking EFL financial rules.

Don’t think they will be the last.

Dobbin, this is (sadly even for the Wurzels) no surprise and as you say will not be the last

I'm never confident on FFP Rules, as they seem to be flexible depending on who is involved but these must be worrying times for our biggest rivals and their supporters; and maybe should make our own situation look just a little bit better?

Hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours! :ayatollah:

Bristol City reveals losses' of nearly £40 million

Tue Dec 28, 2021 11:20 pm

They have 27 points now but could with a points deduction be in the bottom 3 with 18 points. What a season this is turning out to be :o
The company that runs Bristol City has announced losses of nearly £40 million for the 2020/21 financial year.

Bristol City Holdings Limited posted a loss of £38.4 million for the year ending May 31, 2021- £27m more than the previous year.

The Chief Executive Richard Gould pointed to the impact of playing last season behind closed doors and a "crash" in the transfer market as reasons behind the loss.

Revenue from tickets was down by £4.1m on the previous year and the amount lost through the closure of Ashton Gate's was £700,000, a drop of more than £4m.
A points deduction to follow I expect they have 27 points now so could find themselves with 18 points in the bottom 3, maybe lower?

The biggest hit for the club though was in the transfer market where profits fell from £25.6million to £6.2million.

The financial impact of Covid has resulted in extremely serious losses for the last year.
Chief Executive Officer Richard Gould

City Chief Executive Officer Richard Gould said: “Operating without crowds for a whole season has not only had a huge negative effect on revenue but has also resulted in crashing the transfer market and player trading, upon which we have been heavily reliant.

“We remain ever thankful for the support of the Lansdown family, particularly as we feel the financial effects of Covid.

“We are obviously very conscious of the impact this loss will have on compliance with the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules and we continue to work through this, including the dispensation for losses occurred as a result of Covid.”

Wouldn't hurt the useless EFL to look favorable on these clubs during these exceptional times where revenues were severely effected.

When you look at the figures, it is reckless. Wages 212% compared to total revenue CRAZY! normally they are reliant on making a profit in the transfer market CRAZY! They are in the brown stuff right up to the eyes. The EFL will have to hit them hard, I am sorry to have to say this is the next Derby County.

I said last year, and with the effects of covid, there would be a few clubs in trouble this year, and sadly i was correct! O dont think it stops with brizzle either, a few clubs were as i said"sailing a little too clise to the wind"
Thank our lucky stsrs its not us currently.

According to this Bristol’s 18/19 income was ~£30m. That’s for tickets, match day sales, merch, broadcasting, etc.

Someone with a better idea of finances might be able to make a better estimate but I think had they been allowed full capacity crowds they’d still probably be looking at losses of ~£20m or more

Cheers Sven - Hope you had a good Christmas - poor weather here but still a lot warmer than U.K.

I do believe there is an allowance for COVID under FFP but not sure what or how it will work.

I think the board gambled that there was going to be a wage cap for the championship which had it have happened we would have been in a strong position with alot of players out of contract and then would have been wage capped. Therefore not paying over the odds for players. Needs to happen across all football as wages are ridiculous - see it here all day long for bang average players.

Need to survive this season and reset for next :ayatollah:
