One of the crueller moments of the season was seeing

One of the crueller moments of this year was seeing Joe Bennett writhing in agony on the floor during the 4-0 win over Derby County back at the beginning of March.

Bennett had thrived in that wing-back role since McCarthy came in to manage the side and looked to be playing his very best football.

At the time, there were contract talks ongoing and it was the worst possible time for Bennett to be struck down by injury.

Cardiff fans wanted Bennett to remain with the club, believing him to still have much to offer, especially with Joel Bagan still young and learning his trade.

It was a shock that Cardiff made no improved offer after the initial one was rebuffed by Bennett and his camp, given his proven ability and experience at this level.

But he eventually left the club after seeing his deal run out. The sad part of it all, of course, was that his final appearance in a City shirt saw him leave the field on a stretcher in visible pain.

Not a nice way for a top player and servant to exit the club. All Cardiff fans are wishing him well at Wigan, though.
