WAG: You can now be fined for going to work

Wed Dec 22, 2021 6:47 am

The latest stroke of genius from the pricks at WAG.

From Monday individuals can be fined £60 if they go to work when they can work from home instead and employers can be fined £1000 up to £10000 if their staff don't work from home when they're able to.

Who the f**k do they think they are telling people where to do their jobs and businesses how to run?

What other country in the world looks to fine it's own citizens for going to work and fine employers who are providing people with jobs?

What sort of f*cking idiotic government would seek to do that? Has there ever been a clearer example of the utter contempt in which it's citizens is held by an elected government? People are struggling with their jobs and livelihoods and they bring in a law like that to punish them. If it wasn't Drakeford and WAG you wouldn't believe it was possible.

This bunch of fucktards are making Wales an absolute laughing stock safe in the knowledge that having they can do whatever they like including coming up with bullshit like this because they will always be voted for in Wales.

One can only imagine what goes on in the heads of Drakeford and the WAG.

Agree with majority of that Davids, but you forgot that the one major reason that Drakeford and Co and will always be with a liberal labour left socialist Government here is that MONEY and BUDGET are never a priority (even without Covid or any other crisis).

It is Normal for them to go back time and time again to Westminster (British Taxpayer) for more and more money to fund some stupid (few good) vanity projects that make no real difference to peoples lives.

We saw it with the last UK Labour Government who almost bankrupt us (re; a sarcastic note left in the treasury office - NO MONEY LEFT - says it all really.

With a population of 2.5 million in wales, how the hell does anybody believe that we could truly be an independent country ?

As you say, people keep voting these people in ? But that is democracy ;)

Sadly very true.

Re the comments about the Conservative party. It doesn’t help that we have a centre right in terms of political ideology Conservative party. I’m not referring to their behaviour. Just policies and mindset.

But the opposition is socialist. That’s much further left of Centre than the conservatives are right of it.

That means to vast swathes of the population we have an opposition that can not be given their vote. So the Conservative party effectively do what they like uk level.

What we need is more balance. The Labour Party are in the thrall of the left wing and the unions which limited their policies.

We can’t just vote for who we think is a good leader or a decent person because their policies may not line up.

Ideally the Lib Dems could sort themselves out so we can have an ideology that can challenge the Conservative party and make them behave better.

Now in wales.

We are stuck.

Because Maggie closed the mines (labour closed more) they won’t ever vote blue. So as a mirror. The lack of opposition means they do what the hell they like with no control.

Any other control is missing because plaid are basically socialist too but want independence. They more or less align.

OK a bit of perspective here. This is no different to what has been in place in previous periods of lockdown.

The number of people fined so far - zero !!

I'm guessing you didn't listen to the press conference earlier

The legislation is to work from home where you can. Therefore that won't affect the economy greatly will it ? Because you're still working

As for Labour getting it wrong, let's wait and see shall we.

At the moment the modelling is saying that unless something is done to arrest the transmission there could be anything between 33 - 46% of the workforce off sick in early January. So working from home when you can seems to be a more sensible way of keeping the economy going rather than have that sort of level of people not working because they are ill

I do get that differing sides of the political agenda will want to pick holes with the other but the proof will be in once we're out of this peak. If Wales has a lower proportion of cases, hospital admissions and death then Drakeford got it right, if England do better then Boris got it right.

By the way, Boris wants to impose the same restrictions as Wales, he just can't be sure of winning the vote .................. yet.

Are you sure about that? Was it previously a criminal offence as it has now become? Were fines payable for breaches?

If you could remind me where these rules were introduced in the previous lockdown I would be grateful. Not the WFH guidelines but the failure to comply being a criminal offence and the fines for individuals and companies.

Thanks

Taken from WalesonLine transcript of the the announcement. Not challenged by journos, R T Davies or Plaid Cymru rep in the studio. Can't be bothered to look it up as to when this was originally imposed but as an essential worker I was given a letter from my employer to produce to police if stopped to prove my "essential/key worker" status to avoid fine back in March 2020.

"Fines "designed to protect workers not punish them"
Mark Drakeford is asked why he has brought back in fines for people who go to work if they could work from home.

He said: "They are not some new set of rules. They are designed to protect workers not punish them."

He said no fines were issued for these rules previously.

"If an employer is unreasonable expected to be in the work place when they could work from home that they are able to point to the regulations.""

Seriously you are trying to defend fines for people going to a place of work, so if someone feels they are struggling and need to work in an office for their mental health or simply because they work better from an office, fine them because they should be at home, really?

It's an absolute ridiculous idea, and it's only part of the story, he also keeps saying that Boris should be giving him money so he can close the economies down and pay furlough, why because Labour have run the Welsh NHS service into the ground with the end result that anything out of the ordinary will lead to the NHS being overwhelmed.

This power has gone to his head, what happens next year if Covid's finished and it's a bad flu year, begging Boris for money to shut Wales down again, where will it end?

I meant to add there is party politics too, increased Welsh NHS costs his budget, furlough Boris's budget, and if the Welsh NHS is not prepared and struggles more than England it's Welsh Labour in the spotlight.

Agree :thumbright:

And a question that remains unanswered is why Mark Drakeford (in his candidacy speech for the Labour Party leadership in Wales) stated he would (quote) 'only do one term' if he was selected?

He is currently in his second term and, to me at least, it seems the path is being cleared for Ghastly Gething to take over

Nothing against Gething the person, I don't know him, but what I've seen of his politics worries me, if he was the man to lead next :(
