Expect another lockdown in January because naturally cases will rise over the festive period and the government would want to bring them down after new years.

if you look at the stats on this new so called serious omnicon varient its less deadly than the flu which we have learned to live with..by vaccinating the vulnerable.i read a week ago that the south african health minister where the new strain was discovered accused Boris of totally overreacting as this new strain is virtually identical to the common cold which we all live with and accept.

Cardiff City Football Club acknowledges the instruction from the Welsh Government for sporting events in Wales to be played behind closed doors for a limited period of time in an effort to curb the spread of the Omicron variant.

You're right about a lockdown because that's the ultimate form of control that this morally bankrupt government has over it's citizens.

The amount of cases is totally and utterly irrelevant. The ONLY figures relevant are hospitalisations and deaths and these have shown no signs of increasing for months and actual evidence from South Africa ( dismissed arrogantly by SAGE who've consistently been proven wrong time and again with their pessimistic guesswork) shows that there will not be such increases.

Did we ever see daily numbers for flu cases before this shitshow started in March 2020? Were we ever told how many people went to hospital or died from flu before March 2020? Were we ever told how many people caught flu in hospital or died within 28 days of any cause after having the flu?

a 3 million support fund for affected clubs - that’s not going to go far is it!!
what’s the point of having a booster or a covid pass.
absolute joke

Going to be another gruelling year.
Fingers crossed we get some luck...

What stats? The average age of the South African population is under 20 where as the average age of the population in the UK is over 40.We have already tried a wait and see response at the very start of the pandemic and as a result many more people lost their lives because of that delay.Remember the Cheltenham Festival and that Liverpool cup tie show how readily it spread and now this variant spreads that much easier.

The average age in South Africa is not under 20 but they do have a much younger population which is the main point of your argument The BBC reported average age is 28 The UK is an ageing population which is more prone to the covid virus For UK to look at SA experience and believe the same to happen in UK would be irresponsible at this early stage Not sure governments can win Gone to quick this time with reaction and went to late last time And on both occasion lambasted by the public

Ah.median vs average means we are both right though in the case of median it means the middle number in a set of numbers but for the purpose of this argument the average age indicates how much more tolerant a younger population might resist omicron better than an older population.

Millwall v Swansea update

Russell Martin will hold a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to preview Swansea's clash with Millwall at The Den.

It's a clear indicator that both clubs are planning for the Boxing Day contest to go ahead.

The Lions had a Covid-19 outbreak in their camp last week and, as a result, had to postpone their clash with Preston.

We'll keep you posted if the situation changes in the coming days.

Both sets of fans will be allowed to attend.

The positive is that we might have been able to recall players or even added to the squad by the time these get played. Downside is that a lack of income from further crowd limits may make that more difficult beyond recalling a couple of the on loan players.

We (as are all Welsh clubs) at a sporting disadvantage though with no crowds (should England not go the same way) - although our home form has been so bad, maybe it won’t matter after all!!!

There are three different parties controlling England, Wales and Scotland - they can’t all be ‘morally bankrupt’ or pushing the same agenda when they are in competition with each other. There is no benefit to govts breaking the economy for no reason and as more of these regs. come in it uncertainly doesn’t win them popularity.

As for SAGE - they initially said 20k deaths would be a ‘good outcome’. It is already 8 x that amount, so certainly not pessemistic.
Secondly, modelling always shows what might happen without restrictions - putting those in place, should mean the worst case isn’t reached which is why the outcome is normally better. What would deaths have looked like without masks, distancing, restrictions etc…far worse than they do now.

History also shows delay makes it worse - personally I’d rather take a short term inconvenience now than be back to months and months of this.

As its the ENGLISH FA Cup and Preston have a right to 40 per cent of the gate money, they may have a case for insisting that the game is switched to Preston or they are compensated by the WAG. Love to see the fall out on that one.

Would work out better for us as well if we swapped to
Preston. That could be a workable option. Play home in an empty stadium or at least have some travelling fans and gate money.

It’s actually the Emirates FA Cup. Absolutely 0 chance Preston will be entitled to any sort of compensation from anyone due to this game being behind closed doors.

Most going into hospital in SA are under 40, and even then cases are mild compared to their first wave. Likely because most over 40d and 50+s are vaccinated more than the other group. Average age is irrelevant.

I am well aware of what it is called, but the point i was making was that its the English FA Cup that has been affected by a WAG ruling. Unlike football league games where the home side keeps all the gate, the away side is entitled to an equal share of the gate. As such Preston may have a case - not saying they will be successful - in asking for the game to be moved to Preston or to claim part of the WAG 3 million fund which City may be claiming. Be amusing to see Drakeford's reaction if they did. In reality with the game on TV and the inevitable reduced price its probable the game would barely break even so its probably academic.

Even if it was the “English FA Cup” it’s a game in Wales that has been affected by the Welsh Assembly Government.
