Why postpone fixtures?

Fri Dec 17, 2021 8:10 pm

I undersand the concerns over COVID-19 and it's variants. However, as we are told the new omicrons takes hold, the most dominant strain in the UK. While the WHO and other health authorities play catch up to quell it's spread, perhaps it's in the public interest to allow fans to watch there favourite football teams on TV and make sure those games go ahead, not to be postponed unjustly.

I just question whether the correct measures are being put in place by the football authorities in regards to cancelling EPL and EFL fixtures.

For me it seems a minority group is being picked on.

These young men who have trained all their lives, deserve the chance to play football, show their worth, and better their career. Indeed, the coaching staff, and associates are relatively young and healthy.

According to the COVID risk index, these guys are very much unlikely to have major health concerns upon contraction and expected recovery to be quicker than those with underlying health issues.

Cardiff City is a club that gives it's youth a chance, and is doing very well in it's age categories. If a squad member does contract. We should step up and give youth a chance. After a week's rest, that player should be raring to go, to get there place back in the team. :ayatollah:

Let's not forget the unemployed and potentially furloughed workforce after xmas who would appreciate a team to support during these difficult times :ayatollah:

I think COVID is here to stay, the EPL said 14 players must be COVID negative, i think they should get some balls and ensure 2 goalkeepers COVID negative and not sit on the fence. :bluebird:

As we are seeing, the COVID spread usually affects a large number of players at the same time, hence Brentford's manager asking to skip a game, 'but will be ready for the xmas fixtures.' All i'm suggesting is these clubs turn to the youth players for 1 match while the squad recovers :ayatollah:

I noticed that Newport County's Dom Telford continued his remarkable scoring run, after contracting and missing a match with a positive test. Luckily for the squad it seems he was tested in time to not spread,so his teammates not to miss a match :ayatollah:

As McCarthy said on Sky tonight, some players come back fine, others are knackered after 50yds.. agree tho, games should still be played.

Maybe i should be more thoughtful to the players who are at such a high risk of contracting. Not all of them can do a Dom Telford, the structure of football shouldn't change as that industry has to accept it's at extremely high risk of continued positive tests into the future more than most industries.

Are we going to have club's faking COVID positive tests to get out of fixtures? There's millions of pounds riding on outcomes

Can anyone remind me or the rules and regs about coming into contact with a COVID positive case? I honestly don't know if self isolation is still a thing or not.

That would clearly be unworkable in football industry if that is a thing, the governing bodies should seek exemptions on the rules the public follow instead of all the pretense they adhere to them, just an observation

ALL non vaccinated players MUST isolate if they have been in contact with a person who's tested positive.

I found this on the welsh gov.uk website for those interested. "If you are a close contact of someone with the suspected or confirmed Omicron variant, you must self-isolate for 10 days, regardless of your vaccination status or age."

I say good on the footballers, managers, agents, coaches, physios! Who wants to be be under the government's control all there life :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I don't mind players not having to follow rules like everyone else. We are indebted to them for all the social justice campaigns they particapted in our behalf :ayatollah:

The piece of the puzzle that is most relevant is how many have tested positive and how many are forced into isolation because they have chosen not to be jabbed
